The way I look at it, is this version of the game wont be around forever. So might aswell play exactly what you want.

Warriors weren't meant to be top DPS. The way class balance was suppose to work was based off of roles. Warriors were tanks, priests were healers, mages/rogues as pure top DPS, and the rest as hybrid and/or utility classes with sustainable DPS. Any class that went beyond their "roles" were victim to poor balance by the devs, and was usually fixed eventually.

This is the case with warrior, where their rage generation and gear scaling, one handed weapons being normalized to be competitive with two handers specificly, allowed them to out perform even rogues in some cases and was not fixed until TBC. This also broke PvP so some extent. In retail, warriors weren't the most picked class. As far as I remember, rogues and hunters were most picked, it is only on private servers that warrior became the most picked class.

This is my understanding of this but I could be wrong.

No, it's true. But fortunately for us we're balanced around 1.12, meaning alot of the early, initial issues for Fury Warriors are no longer a problem. Add in the theorycrafting knowledge and we're able to push the classes far more than any of the vanilla explorers were capable of figuring out on a progressive timeline.

No, we still on 1.4 in some areas - 8 debuff slots, not even all pre-raid BiS awailable, etc.

in 1.4,
rogues and hunters do pretty well(hunters mostly) as the gear available suits them better.
DPS warriors need r12 and r13 gear to really fit them better. (r14 weps as well once they get updated) to have them excel even more.
casters get rekt until more item patches come into play and more gear comes out for them. but ZG is when spell hit starts filling up those holes caused by RNG resists, giving more consistent dps.

don't be shocked if guilds run melee trains through MC+Ony+BWL. casters get better later on (especially with locks and mages).
