In the private server segment TBC is a whole different game. Some like it, others not.
For example, I absolutely hate the space - goat, flying dragon mount lore bullshit, which Blizzard pulled out of his butt, just to try to milk money out of my pocket. A lot of folk will stay in the Vanilla server which will divide the community to the point where its a lose-lose situation to everybody.
There will certainly be a split between the player base but that is inevitable. When players who have started from the PVP or PVE server from day 1 get through all of the Vanilla content, there's nothing really left for them to do. Do you just expect them to keep farming Naxxramas forever? Nostalrius will want to keep its player base. In order to do that, they have to keep producing content. Nostalrius is trying to replicate the progression of WoW over the years. It started with Vanilla and moved onto BC after all the content was complete.
Also, Nostalrius is still growing in popularity. It's still way to early to tell how many players will be around over the next year or so. The 30k or so players may turn into 100k people. It's all hypothetical at the moment.
If/when they release a TBC server, I personally see myself playing on both because Naxxramas is such a fun and challenging raid I still will want to raid it. I know multiple other people who will be doing the same thing.
