I would've rerolled so I could experience my favorite zones again. I skipped STV because it was so bad. And it sucked. I did instances instead, AH, Badlands, and Desolace so I could level between 30-40ish. I enjoy questing and exploring tbh. While trying to do that, it's annoying being ganked by people 10 levels higher than you. When I come across a person who is equal in level, nothing happens. But if I'm outnumbered or they are just higher level, I'm dead meat. And the ghost walks are brutal in Vanilla. Half of the 60s do let me be. I will admit that.

If I knew a PvE server was underway, I honestly would've waited for that. But at this point, I am at level 45. I don't feel like rerolling. I still rather make a toon on the PvP sever so I can send gold to it and just power level it.

I actually do enjoy PvP like BGs and Duels. But World PvP is mostly about getting the first sucker punch and/or outnumbering your opponent. I like fair fights. I'm more accepting of a loss and feel better about my wins.

I'm looking to reroll PVE mostly because the constant ganking is simply making the game unfun for me. Oh sure, I could put up with it and get to level 60 eventually (I reached level 32 before getting sick of it and stopping) but the whole ride would be miserable. And I don't play games to be miserable.

I used to actually like playing on a pvp server. This was back in the BC days of retail. I was enamored with the idea of having fights with other players happen spontaneously. But as time went on, I just got disillusioned with the whole thing.

The biggest problem with world pvp in WoW has always been the ability for high-level players to gank low level players without repercussion. 60 players have nothing to fear from anyone even a couple of levels lower, nevermind differences over 10 levels. The only reason to go around killing lowbies is to be a dick. There is no tangible reward, and no challenge. It's just pure douchbaggery that people get off on. And it happens all over the place on pvp servers outside of any contested zone. It's not even like you can realistically get help from friendly level 60's unless you get one to follow you around everywhere (which is kinda wasting their time) since said gankers usually run at the first sign of actual resistance. It's basically a case of internet trolling where the troll actually has an impact on your own activities, and it's infuriating.

Even in the ideal scenario of world pvp, a lot of it is more dependent upon elements outside of skill. Who strikes first, who has more friends, who is currently preoccupied with mobs, who has better gear, or even who is playing with a class advantage. The first three in particular are damning to me. I don't feel accomplished killing a player who's grossly outnumbered I just feel like an inevitability has occurred. Likewise, there's no glory in killing a player who's lost most of their health from a hard fight.

Some people defend world pvp solely on the basis that it's World of WARcraft, and that taking the war out of the game is diminishing it. My counterargument is that world pvp doesn't reflect war in the slightest. We don't take orders from higher ups (aside from a few really strict guilds), we don't take land, we don't target supply lines, we don't have coordinated maneuvers, we don't even have any kind of real win scenario in the grand scheme of things. I'd argue that the battlegrounds actually better represent the war side of World of Warcraft. World pvp is more like World of Wildwestcraft, except people don't value their own lives since they are effectively immortal, and some people are gods compared to others. Now that I think of it, world pvp is like some kind of surreal purgatory of players being dicks to eachother for little to no reason and finding excuses as to why it's perfectly ok.

Damn I got ranty, and I haven't even touched on some other issues, but I think I'll just end it here.

I really like the idea of running around pvp flagged all the time. So everybody will know im up for a fight and if a horde player think he is strong enough to kill me, a pretty nice fight will start. This way i am also flagging him and people who might engage. This is real wpvp, the fair instead of the forced one.
And if im not in the mood of a fight, ill just stay unflagged.
Im really looking forward for it.

Ganking

It's annoying as piss. I stopped playing in April because of it. Picked it back up earlier this month to see if it got any better.

Nope. Impossible to quest in STV. 1KNeedles and Arathi Highlands can be a pain in the ass and I've already done all of Desolace's and Hilsbrad's quests that I possibly can and I'm still just hitting 35.

So I'm just going to wait for the PvE server so I don't have to skip STV since it's such a major questing area that, when there's not dickbutt gankers doing their thing, it makes leveling go by faster (at least it did for me on retail pre-Cata).

I guess the fact that I've hated MMORPG PvP since forever plays a part too.

Shmooglavoue, what a great post. Couldn't agree more. I don't play games to be miserable either, but to relax. I also stopped at 32.

I'd also like to add that I have always played on PvP servers but ganking in retail wasn't this bad. Not even close. It's because of the population. You have triple population? Triple ganking. I also believe the subscription fee played some part but I won't speculate.

My reason would be the fresh start plus I have a good reason to reroll back to shaman.

The thing is with pvp is theres numerous ways to do it, city raiding, ganking and pvp that creates such vidoes as the vurtne series.

To the people degrading the people that like ganking because they may like the lore of the game and feel I AM A ORC I MUST KILL ALL ALLIANCE! or typically like playing against real people instead of npcs is completely fine to me ( AND killing lowbies is THEIR reward for being higher lvl theres nothing wrong with it, if you dont like be ganked TRY A LITTLE HARDER) , just because they like battling and killing off the opposition doesn't make them 14 it doesn't make them angry little basement dwellers and other mean things people on this thread have been saying about them, which doesn't say much them self's to be honest.

Any way there are heaps of ways to inspire world pvp on a pve server and it keeps the rude people from complaining so win win.

PvE server isn't only about people rerolling from the PvP server.

Don't forget, majority is the people who want a fresh start somewhere, meaning most of the community will be brand new as the PvP ones will play for a moment and then leave back to the PvP one.

For some, world PvP on a 9k online is too much, but there aren't that many players to leave the place for that reason, and thus PvE will be mostly a new community, with other standarts and new ways of playing.

I wanna experience the old vanilla zones without the fear of getting ganked all the time.. Imagine leveling in STV and having a good time at the same time? gonna be sweet =) Back in the day i was ok at pvp i guess but im rusty as hell and i dont care to improve tbh, i just wanna level up a chr and see the old world as it should be
