Too late to start leveling a tank?

by Wyatt99 » Thu Nov 26, 2015 6:18 am

Hey everyone. I was just curious if it was viable to make a tank atm? Are tanks, as a role, overpopulated atm? Thanks for any advice!

Depends on your ambition and the fact, that people will start to get bored. Tanks are kinda rare although warriors are overpopulated af. Right now, every time I show up online, I always get an invitation to tank something and if I want to do any dungeon, i will get a group going in some 5 mins. The other thing is raiding progression - we have 3 MT's and we let our Furys offtank when needed (Domo and shit). Getting a raiding spot as a warrior will be hard either way - there are tons of dps warrs and serious guilds usually have MT/OT spots covered. You might wanna check guild forums and see what people are looking for. I would suggest making a shaman :)

Tanks are always needed. Especially on a new server where after all the first tanks don't want to run dungeons anymore cuz they got all their shit. Go for it. People burn out on vanilla all the time too. I bet you in 3-4 months guilds 1st or 2nd tank will have quit by then.

The only problem is that you might be stuck for a month after u've got all your pre raid gear waiting for someone to quit. Thats why it depends on your time commitment - if you level and gear up quick you might end up waiting for a spot

Like most vanilla servers, tanks are highly demanded for 5-man instances but not for 40-man raiding. If you wanna get a guaranteed raid spot, leveling a druid tank and respecing to resto at 60 is an option.

Why respect at 60? I have in the past and will this time bear tank. Tanks may be plenty, but "good tanks" are in short supply. Plus with the growing population, more raid teams will need tanks. It's not like there will only every be 5-6 good raid teams going.

With the server only being around for two months, I'd say now is better than later. While it does take a while to level a tank, you should be able to have one geared, and leveled to 60, before new patch.

Bear tanking is a great option! A minor problem you will run into by doing feral is you cannot JUST get tank gear. You need dps and healing gear also. I say this because you cannot MT until AQ (only some bosses) as a feral druid due to the lack of dodge/spell resist/hp. The duty "feral" gets on a vanilla server is being one spec, but all roles. If you want to go feral the BiS gear is almost all crafted or blues from instances until AQ/Naxx/Rank 13.

The biggest guild problem you will run into is every druids dream is to be feral (not every but most want to). If you are not one of the first druids in the guild the only way you can receive this spot is if the feral quits or leaves the guild. (I say "the feral" because you don't want more than (1) feral in a raid group)

-- Keep in mind that feral dps is very viable with low gear level compared to some other classes

Good luck and hope to see you 60 soon!
