Is it worth rerolling from the pvp server to the pve one?

by Rebral » Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:54 pm

I haven't played on nostalrius in a few months and have a warlock on the pvp server at level 20. Im thinking about rerolling and making either a warrior tank or warlock on the pve server for some serious progression raiding. I can really decide on if I should stay on the pvp server or change to the pve one, any suggestions?

I'll weigh some pros and cons for you to try and help.

PvP
+ Three times the population of the PvE Server. (8-9k vs 2-2.5k at peak times.)
+ More guilds already at level 60.
+ Better established economy and endgame.

- Three times the population of the PvE Server crammed into the same Server. (Mining/Herbalism professions are overcrowded, making alot of the endgame stuff expensive. Known to lag and go down more than the PvE server, and plenty of bored level 60's roaming around for the sake of Ganking.)
- You need to put in extra effort because you're behind. Once you reach 60 you're gonna have to invest more time since people are well into BWL and now ZG.
- Very populated. Some classes are "underpopulated" but they're still pretty darn populated to a degree.

PvE
+ Relatively new. People are still levelling and MC/Onyxia is the PvE endgame, so you're not really behind at all.
+ Underpopulated classes are actually underpopulated. So you would definitely score the spots amongst guilds.
+ Gank-free and more stable experience. You can enjoy your questing and not feel like someone could be behind the corner or the lag about to strike.

- A third of the PvP population. We have people, but certainly not as many as the PvP Server.
- Still no firmly established economy. So somethings don't sell as much as they really should yet.
- Still levelling. Sometimes it will take time to gather people for things as everyone is at different steps. PvP is also more scarce at the moment due to the lack of 60's.

I'd go PvE myself. Since Warlocks are definitely desirable and you're not having the looming presence of level 60's prepared to camp you out of boredom. But it's all down to you.

Tbh I see the lower population of the PvE server as a positive aspect and not a negative one.

It feels way more blizzlike like this. And the population is absolutely healthy enough to always find people for quests/instances etc.

Me too, no doubt about it. I really like that it´s not that crowded.

On it's own it's understandable, but in comparison to the PvP server population is always something to bring in for comparison.

Hence why it's both a positive and negative for the PvP server.

You are right, I didn't notice you put it as a negative factor as well. Sorry about that, all good then :)

The biggest pain for me is that when cool stuff happens on the PvP realm, like ZG, you get to wait for another 8 months.

But on the flipside of that, when the content comes out on the PvE server it's more refined. Blackwing Lair broke the PvP server for weeks. The PvE server will likely pass over the bugs the PvP server had, as well as any faults they find with ZG.

Exactly, PvP server is basically beta testing for us.

If you really want to do the whole progression thing i would go to the PvE realm. Like it was posted above; progression is already halfway on the PvP realm. ZG will be cleared and farmed well before you get 60. Leaving only AQ and Naxx. Consumables are also expensive making your entry into lategame even harder.

I don't think leveling is easier or harder on either realm. You have griefers on both realms. On the PvP server they just kill you. On the PvE server they tag mobs, kill questgivers, sheep your mobs,... On the PvP realm you will find a group for every elite or groupquest. Don't know the deal on the PvE server but i guess thats ok aswell since alot are still leveling.
