Long Term PVE

by btbyrne » Thu Dec 10, 2015 11:26 pm

Hey all,

As this is my first foray into private servers, I was wondering how long these things generally last or stay popular. That is, will people leave the pve server scene after a few weeks or what. Should I play on PvP instead?

PvP got a population of between 8 and 10k players peak times.

PvE got a healthy population of between 2 and 2.5k players peak times.

Also PvE is limited to 2.5k online at once. Players will leave PvE and also PvP when they don't want to play anymore. But both servers won't die.

Over the last few years I've played on 2 other private Vanilla servers: Rebirth and Emerald Dream. Rebirth was only successful for a matter of a few months, and I quit ED after 5-6 weeks because the scripting was so sub-par(the server itself died sometime after that).

Nos PvP started on Feb 28th and has only gained a shitload of players since then. A lot of people like myself didn't like it there on account of the constant ganking, but the server itself was indisputably the most high quality that I've seen. It's pretty much the most successful private WoW server to date. It's got a huge population, and it's clearly not going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm not going to bullshit you: The PvE server had a huge opening on Oct 17th, but we appear to have lost a noticeable amount of players, starting in late Nov. That said, the population is holding steady and you can still easily get groups for pretty much any content(especially tanks & healers). I'm actually surprised that the PvE server isn't more successful, but I honestly feel that it's going to be alive & kicking for quite some time.

PvP or PvE, you're not going to find a better Vanilla experience that Nostalrius. Even in the unlikely event that the PvE server were to die off, the PvP server will still be kicking ass for years.
