The game was designed by Blizzard to be a timesink.
I get what you're saying about Nost though, there's a grain of truth there. It's obvious they care more about the "community" at large and not so much the fair treatment of each player.
But as you point out, it's free - and they are the one of the best private server projects out there in some ways.
