I'll bet you five dollars they have a HR performance assessment system which converts by various completely crazy methods ("pick five of our eight key values and describe over the last year how you achieved them") everyone's supposed performance into a number between 0 and 5, and bonuses and even promotion relate to the number you score. So if you score say 4.2, and the bonus level is 4.3, what a shame! and guess who controls the computation of the score? that would be HR... when everyone has become a number to HR, it was time to leave five years ago.
(This was how Tekelec worked, before they were bought by Oracle, a move which abruptly and starkly highlighted to me that Oracle and completely crazy and are in business and do well simply because there's such huge need for their product, rather than by them being actually sane, sensible, making good choices, etc).
So you're basically saying Blizzard employees gets bonuses based on a RNG.
