Then I bought retail to try it out and got to 90 and while it was also fun in a way, it didn't feel the same as vanilla. It felt quite lonely on retail. It was very single playery and basically no social contact. What's worse is because it requires no effort, you get utter noobs in higher level places who don't know how the mechanics work. Whereas there's a point where if you play vanilla you cannot be a noob once you hit a certain level because it requires knowing your role.
Vanilla felt like I worked for everything but retail felt like everything was handed to me and it wasn't very fulfilling.
It's a systemic problem with the genre. They're getting pushed out of the way by other games.
SWTOR is the same. And the last expac made it even worse. All stats got mixed into a single 'Mastery' number that works the same for all classes.
Heroic 4 missions were removed, and all heroic missions can be 2 manned now. Even then, you can stick to solo missions and level up perfectly. Flashpoints have fun stories but they're dreadfully easy. I remember 2 manning them as a Juggernaut tank while my Inquisitor girlfriend debuffed and healed. It's a game that even gets marketed for its story part, which I admit is pretty good, but if the point is to follow a storyline, a regular RPG, like KOTOR 3, would have been a much more efficient way to go at it, rather than going and create a MMO.
