From my POV, on the outside, they're identical. People watch, are enthralled (in all sorts of ways) and then it ends and the next one comes along and it repeats.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue it's bad. It's not. It's entertainment. I get my entertainment in other ways, such as football.

Yes. It is indeed so. However, although I may be wrong, you have I think posted this because you feel I was feeling superior. I was not. What I have written is an *observation*, not a belief or related in any way to how I see or think of myself or people who enjoy these shows.

I was trying to recall the name of LoneStar recently, and ended up looking through a list of popular MMOs. There are lots - five densely packed pages. WoW was in there, of course. I thought to myself how each and every one of these gameworlds was likely entirely capable of providing to me immersion and absorbtion, and I just happened to be immersed and absorbed in WoW. Who knows what I have missed out on? but taking one step back, in a larger sense, they are one and the same.

You're missing the point - it's not about who, what or where; it's about how sensitive, or inesensitive, we are to violence, in this case, graphic, horrific, sickening violence (or, at least to me, sensitive as I am). I think as humans we are normally sensitive to such things, and it is not normal for us to be insensitive.

I think, beg your pardon, that for the majority of people nowadays and for even more people in past times it is the exact oposite. We are so nicely tucked in and taken care of in our civilized and wealthy world that we forget how brutal and harsh the world and the fight for survival really was, and in many places in the world still is. People who get an uneasy feeling in their guts because they are not used to see other creatures, be it humans or animals, suffer just miss the connection between the steak in the supermarket and the cow that has to die for it.

I'm not trying to point my finger on you and tell you how upstage your lifestyle is, nor am i trying to play down violence. I am merely "observing" how things used to be for most of human history and that people in general were used to violence much more than most of us are nowadays.
