Hello to everyone, I will be short. I just want to share a few informations on this topic.
I have information that the legacy servers will be without monthly fee.
Also, I know that Blizzard already knows how to earn money from it.
So, don't worry about monthly fee, and don't worry about how Blizzard earns their money. ;)

For the people not wanting to pay for legacy, please learn about business!! Blizz isn't going to pay hundreds of thousands of not into the millions to give us legacy and say "enjoy the gift". We will have to pay the sub fees.

I am totally ok with needing to keep the game "current" meaning having to buy legion and keeping my sub to get a chance to play legacy again. All blizzard would need to do is add a classic or legacy tab at the bottom of the realm selection screen once they get the code figured out. Keeping the game current means better support, better service, and better game play experience. 90% of the people that want legacy are in the same position as I am. This will also bring the community closer and may grow the community on retail servers that I/we that have stuck around have been missing for the last 6 1/2 years. I have been an active sub since 2005 with no breaks. I do not feel like blizz has done me any wrong by changing T H E I R game. They are doing what was best for their business at the time. Now, bringing legacy back will be best for business now, so it all makes sense to me.

Please don't kill the movement by saying it needs to be free or no way. When you do you become the cancer in the movement and will ensure that we will never see legacy servers. Thanks for your time and good luck to the Nost team with their meeting with blizz.

Who says they have to invest anything? They would just have to license the vanilla IP for non-commercial uses. Does this result in immediate profit? No. But in the long run they will have more programmers out there familiar with the companies data formats and design principles from which they can recruit.

This would actually be a matter of manhours, as the client data differs between versions. But why not use the old client like Nost did?

That is not the point I am trying to make. In the end it is Blizzards IP and they are free to handle that however they like. I am just saying outsourcing all of this to the existing open source emu scene would relieve them from any support issues, like keeping GMs, fixing bugs, server cost, etc. pp. which always seemed to be their main concern. At the same time they gain huge PR boost, more people get to know their IP and might sub retail at some point, as well as current players being able to experience the "ancient history" in case they missed it. If Blizz goes legacy they will have to put money on the table and I guess provide TBC/WotLK etc. sooner or later, which would really drive maintenance up.

Another point not to be underestimated: Open source WoW is modable. This ranges from simple stuff like 5-man nerfed raids, over adding custom content to the existing game world, to - in theory - removing the Blackrock Spire by editing client mpqs and then scripting the "War of the Three Hammers". A while ago there were some threads in this forum from a guy who added some NPCs and quest to turn Dun Morogh/Ironforge into a level 1-10 BG. I mean it won't be a Skyrim, but WoW could have it's own modding scene.
