Vipers latest announcement, have the gloves come off?

Yes, Blizzard is well aware of the Legacy issue now thanks to all of you:

They know that the need is here with around 300,000 players signing our petition and the statistics from the survey we published (answered by 50,000 WoW gamers) showing that players are ready to pay a subscription fee for it.
According to the discussion we had since our official meeting at their headquarters, they now have everything in their hands to fulfil the large community request for Legacy servers, solving all the previous technical issues they highlighted during the feedback they provided.

As a consequence, if Blizzard doesn't make an announcement to honour their own core values, be sure that we will.

Rather happy to see some something after all these months. BTW here is Blizzard Entertainments list of its eight core values on their mission statement page:

Gameplay first.
Commit to quality.
Play nice; play fair.
Embrace your inner geek.
Every voice matters.
Think globally.
Lead responsibly.
Learn and grow.

What does Vipers post mean exactly. I can only speculate but I hope it means that if Blizzard does not make a well-defined move on Legacy the community will restart its vanilla emulation campaign. Perhaps not restart Nos but I suspect the team will do something that will allow legacy to continue while protecting them in the process.

If Blizzard doesn't say something honoring their core values, then Nost will announce Blizzard's core values. Whatever that means. Maybe Nost will simply proclaim the greatness of Legacy servers, and everyone will go their merry way - although my hope out of this is that the Nost server code can be passed down to someone who can do something meaningful, in a way that's responsible and that values the community.
I think Asmongold summed it up in a recent video - Blizzard is a company, the only thing that matters to them is money. I don't know that they have any real core values beyond that...

Yes, Blizzard is Business and I suspect they see the value of their old IP. Heck, Nintendo is rolling out a mini console with NES games. I suspect legacy will be on the table at some point but I hope Vipers post indicates that if Blizzard doesn't put it on table in November than Nost will. At least that's my hope.

that's gotta be one of the weakest arguments I've heard in awhile. it's not always about money.

blizz still keep diablo 1/2 warcraft 2/3 servers up and have actually hired new people to work on these older games.

This has been beaten like a dead horse, the popular consensus is that Diable and warcraft series do not threaten to eat away at an existing IP player base. While Vanilla wow is a very real threat to take people away from modern wows; Token market, mount market, pet market, cosmetic item market, pre-order market, and any other market Blizzard will introduce.

Yet Blizzard needs to see Vanilla as a market that can make money since the IP is already developed and people will pay subs. Blizzard needs to wake up and realize there are two well-defined markets. The old vanilla market and current wow. Activision's slave needs to make two isolated games to allow for double dipping and addressing a niche market that will cost next to nothing to maintain.

In my opinion nobody just goes to play MMORPG from 2006 without getting disappointed or bored with modern one or even with whole modern trend of game design.
I think, in that case that player could go anywhere else, so the problem not in existence of that old MMO, but in modern one.

It would be great if we could somehow poll modern WoW playerbase to see if Vanilla really poses a threat to Retail.

If retail players actually leaves retail for vanilla just means they have a shit product atm, and should accept that instead of putting the head into the sand, but the truth hurts
