Ya, unfortunately its a huge issue with the World of Warcraft community right now.
That includes the live game's and the private community, but its particularly bad here.
I understand why though. The people who played Nostalrius, including myself, have had something stolen from them. It hurts to feel that way, but its unhealthy to hold on to that resentment this long. I came to terms that Classic was an after thought and have enjoyed my time away from private servers.
They are a lot of fun, especially Nostalrius, but they often foster a lot of young, inexperienced players only attracted to the allure of nostalgia and enticed by the idea of it being free to play.
I am some one who loves World of Warcraft start to finish. I have made the greatest friendships I have ever made on both live servers and on Nostalrius.
Legion is easily the greatest launch of any expansion I have ever played, but I still want to play Classic so bad it aches.
I am extremely excited to see what they have to say at Blizzcon about ways they can continue to keep content coming out for Legion, because some of the ideas they have put in so far have been the best implementations they have ever done.
But I am also deeply saddened to learn that they will not be announcing official Legacy support that weekend either.
This is what it means to be a true fan of World of Warcraft.
You can (and should) prefer to play either expansion, but you should do so because you actually enjoy it.
Most people here seem to be blindly hating Blizzard with absolutely zero knowledge of their product, and a LOT of people are doing the same thing against Nostalrius. Even worse, parties on both sides let others make their opinions for them, and that leads to this mob mentality that we see on fan sites such as this one occasionally.
The Nost team has done the gaming community a great service by rehosting many people's most memorable and enjoyable time, but Blizzard works very hard to ensure their product is in top shape and is exceedingly competitive for players who have played the game for 12 + years.
Both deserve to thrive, and anyone who says otherwise is very jaded.
I really do hope we can see a symbiosis created. I would PREFER it to be Nostalrius helps run a legacy project for Blizzard, or something like that, where we have the stability and lag-free environment that Blizzard can provide, but the community focused mindset that the Nost team has demonstrated.
But at this point, it seems like that community would rather be at war than actually admit that they could benefit a LOT from having a bridge over their differences.
