what was the meta in 1.12? I'm a veteran. help pls

Hey guys!

I used to play WoW on the genuine Blizzard servers when I was a teenager;I quit in WotLK. I'm 25 now, time flies. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play on Nostalrius because it was already shut down when I found out about it. I did follow the news ever since however. But, on to my point:
I'm really excited to hear that nostalrius will come back under elysium so I'm planning on making a return to the game. I just need to decide which class to start. For this, I need some info about 1.12, because I don't know what was the state of things under that particular patch. I'd like to ask your help guys.
So I remember there was a time when the only viable tank class was the warrior. Later on they changed it so that feral druids and paladins could tank as well. Also, I'd be happy to start a rogue, but I'm afraid there will be an oversupply of them and raids will not need me. Unless it's the patch where rogues were the best dps class by far and they were demanded.
So what was the case in Nostalrius?
