So, was this Nostalrius' end game?

by Sharax » Fri Apr 22, 2016 1:19 pm

Many of us wondered why Nostalrius promoted so heavy and touted their record number of players despite the fact that the server couldn't handle these numbers. Hosting the server in a country that didn't offer protection against Blizzard seemed very unwise. The management surrendered immediately once Blizzard came around.

So, was this the End Game after all? Promote the viability of legacy servers to Blizzard by delivering a great experience to attract many thousands on enthusiasts? And once Blizzard noticed this success, fold the community and move on to Phase 2 to put pressure on Blizzard to finally support legacy?

Judging from the petition, they hint that they would welcome some sort of collaboration with Blizzard on delivering this experience.

If this was truly their End Game, I really do not find a fault with it. It would be rather clever. Perhaps Nost was never intended to be a very long-term project.

If I'm not wrong they still have all the data?

So they could just "shovel" the servers into a cpu at some random datacenter and it's up again?

Reminds me of Code Geass and Lelouche's end game of stopping the endless cycle of war.

yes, i thought the same, and tbh i also thought it could be that devs just got tired and decided to shut this down, maybe that blizzard letter didn't even exist

People forget that Nost was literally 1 or 2 steps above Stock mangos when it first released.

Haha, though I find it hard to believe, that would be a nice plot twist. Imagine if it was all part of Nostalrius' plan to shut down their server and blame Blizzard lawyers for it even though they didn't send anything. That would put Blizzard in quite a funny situation: either they deny sending the letter, which would mean for most gamers "we're ok with them" (when Blizzard isn't ok with them), or they just go with it, Nostalrius community gets angry, calls for a change on legacy servers, etc. That would definitely be a nice move and as an avid fan of movies with plot twist, I would just clap slowly in admiration.

Also, we can get even further and imagine that Nostalrius is in fact a community of lizards who want to conquer the world. But that would be the sequel, I guess.

I just hope Blizzard gets their head out of the sand and makes legacy servers... Who seriously wants to play with the filthy casuals that make up the WoW player base these days... -_-
