Blizzard post relating to Nostralius.

We wanted to let you know that we’ve been closely following the Nostalrius discussion and we appreciate your constructive thoughts and suggestions.

Our silence on this subject definitely doesn’t reflect our level of engagement and passion around this topic. We hear you. Many of us across Blizzard and the WoW Dev team have been passionate players ever since classic WoW. In fact, I personally work at Blizzard because of my love for classic WoW.

We have been discussing classic servers for years - it’s a topic every BlizzCon - and especially over the past few weeks. From active internal team discussions to after-hours meetings with leadership, this subject has been highly debated. Some of our current thoughts:

Why not just let Nostalrius continue the way it was? The honest answer is, failure to protect against intellectual property infringement would damage Blizzard’s rights. This applies to anything that uses WoW’s IP, including unofficial servers. And while we’ve looked into the possibility – there is not a clear legal path to protect Blizzard’s IP and grant an operating license to a pirate server.

We explored options for developing classic servers and none could be executed without great difficulty. If we could push a button and all of this would be created, we would. However, there are tremendous operational challenges to integrating classic servers, not to mention the ongoing support of multiple live versions for every aspect of WoW.

So what can we do to capture that nostalgia of when WoW first launched? Over the years we have talked about a “pristine realm”. In essence that would turn off all leveling acceleration including character transfers, heirloom gear, character boosts, Recruit-A-Friend bonuses, WoW Token, and access to cross realm zones, as well as group finder. We aren’t sure whether this version of a clean slate is something that would appeal to the community and it’s still an open topic of discussion.

One other note - we’ve recently been in contact with some of the folks who operated Nostalrius. They obviously care deeply about the game, and we look forward to more conversations with them in the coming weeks.

You, the Blizzard community, are the most dedicated, passionate players out there. We thank you for your constructive thoughts and suggestions. We are listening.

About time a response came out, alas not something we wanted to hear. Of course it had to be J. Allen Brack releasing the response. Oh the irony!

I doubt Blizzard is taking this as seriously as I'd like. Even without Kerns input no one believes the project is beyond the scope of Blizz. Hell its a drop in the bucket to what they've accomplished and the ground work has already been layed out for them.

Something is better than nothing. Best thing I've been hoping for is SOME statement, so I know if considering paying Blizzard more money or not is an option for me. A "pristine" realm is not something I'm that interested in, but at least it's a step in the right direction. If that's all this is going to end up becoming, then I will definitely be heading for "pirate" servers, as he put it, instead of official.

My wife and I just finished leveling up two rogues on retail to 30 tonight on one of the top 8 most heavily populated realms. We saw only 3 friendly players and zero enemy. Quests were so easy it took longer to travel to the quest areas and back than it took to actually do the quests.

It's pathetic. I have 4 level 100's, and a couple of them geared around i700. It's garbage. The graphics, voice acting, and other aspects are really good, but actually playing the game is so lacking in engagement it's glaringly obvious.

It's not "rose tinted goggles", it's that I want to work for what I do in the game, not have everything handed to me. Heirlooms, XP boosts, transfers, and all those increases only ADD to the problem that's already there.

I appreciate J. Allen Brack's statement finally being issued, but if the situation ends with what he's painted as how things might progress, I am more done with Blizzard than I already was. We have 3 days left on our subs. If nothing changes, then neither will my thoughts on supplying Blizzard with any more money.

Viva La Nostalrius!

Don't let Blizzard change the attention to a small improvement of Legion. We want Vanilla servers! Stay firm!

Hey guys, guys!

This statement is bullshit! Grade A. The very finest manure there is. It's sun baked, yet still moist and tender inside, just the right amount excremental decomposition to give off the utmost pungent stank. They said the same shit about transmog.

In the words of Jay Wilson: "fuck that guy". I hope J. Allen Brack burns down with retail, this kind of canned shit is more disgusting than spreadable kraft cheese. Literally repeated the same shit they've always said as if all that's transpired hasn't.

I wouldn't play on Blizzard Legacy servers even if they did a 180 on this because you simply cannot trust them, they don't operate under transparency and will spin any cluster fuck that happens. They keep throwing statements at us that cannot be ratified, completely conflicting with what private servers are able to achieve.

Fuck Blizzard.

Fuck Blizzard.

Fucking fuck Blizzard.

This pristine realm is pure BS. EQII did something like that for their legacy servers. God, it sucked like a hoover.

They just delivered a castrated version of their current game and said - it's you legacy server u've craved. So Blizz thinking to do the same shit .It DOESN'T work this way.]

All they need is to take mangos opensource if they don't want to reinvent the old coding, but heck, "it's too difficult" for such a big company :D

AsEel youre right. Some random 30 french volunteers managed to create the best vanilla authentic server out there, but blizzard, one of the most rich gaming companies, cannot, because it seems 'too hard to do it'...thats just a justification for not creating legacy servers
