Some concerns

by ChillinVanillin » Tue May 17, 2016 11:03 am

A couple of concerns regarding the current ideas for "legacy servers" Blizz may create.

First of all, they have the idea to give vanilla free with the retail WoW sub. I would like to point out, that if that is the only way to sub for vanilla, they will use each and every one of us as a statistic for the number of subscribers to current retail WoW and say that we support it.

Secondly, it has been mentioned that they may release a "legacy collectors edition" that may contain in game items or mounts/skins. This buying of in game items is completely against the concept of vanilla imo, and is a slippery slope to pet shops, WoW tokens etc.

I have no problem with that.

I expect to pay a subscription for a Blizzard based vanilla realm - ofcause. If they say "we now have X million subscribers" which include legacy players, so what? We got what we want, it is not like we are at war with retail WoW or Blizzard. (I am not at least).

Subscriber numbers aren't really an issue...if anything it'll help revive them a bit. Regarding mounts, this isn't really an issue either if the later pricing system is used (900g riding, 90g mount) as the bulk of the effort is to obtain the riding skill.

A bigger concern for me though is this question, which I've come to realise recently:

Q - What is the only thing about this meeting that can't be done over the internet (skype, video etc.) but actually requires the physical presence of the Nost team?

A - Signed NDA's. (with a tour of Blizz HQ and free goodies thrown in)

Sorry guys, but all these people getting their hopes up are going to be disappointed. (I do hope I'm wrong on this, but I still think this is the most likely outcome...particularly given the cost incurred by Blizz to fly them over and back again)

Yeah, this "Guys we'll consider the legacy servers, just sign these NDAs here, dont mind the small print m8s". With the repercussions when broken of getting legally bumfucked in a magnitude unseen before which makes it 100% certain that Nost people will never have anything to do with private servers again and once (HUGE if) the legacy server ever launches Blizz can just fuck it up the way they want.

Did you already forget that the first vanilla WoW collector's edition had an in-game pet? In game rewards for a collector's edition ARE vanilla WoW. Tbh I'd be happy to see the same exact pets as the in-game item again, for the sake of historical significance.

Tin foil hats off please.
A meeting face to face brings another dinension to a meeting.
Physical appearance, trust, non verbal communication and involvement and not to mention being taken serious.
If they come with any contract that does not mean it is signed thats one way communication.

Just look at it as a friendly meeting to sense the situation and get on the same page.

Viper and deamon aren't stupid..
Maybe even gotten legal advise in this whole story.

There's nothing to put in a NDA other than the fact they'd be making the servers, which would be stupid to hide. If it's not in the best interest of the players, I doubt they'd ever sign it. If it says, "We're going to put in all kinds of P2W cash shop BS post release, but you can't tell anyone", there's no way they'd sign it. Nost is a crew that could have sold out long ago with their own server, but always refused to do so.

So what is the problem? If one day we finally have an official legacy server, what you say would be the last of my concerns. In France, we have an expression to describe you: "you want the butter and the money you spent for it."

I agree that we dont want a shop IG. This is not Vanilla. But, a collector edition means only a pet and a mount. If this is the only difference between Vanilla and Legacy, Im fine.

Non Disclosure Agreement. Yes, promise to shut up about what was seen or heard. But there would not be much point to have one if they plan to make legacy servers. It's all content everyone has seen before. Its news isn't really going to affect retail either, since players that enjoy retail will just stay the course and ignore everything about it.
