How hard was raiding on Nostalrius?

by Amartial » Fri Nov 11, 2016 1:50 pm

I prefer to remember World of Warcraft as it used to be not the abomination it has become!

Hello guys!

I'm curious about the Nost Revival in the next few months. I never played Vanilla before, i started during TBC but i want to experience how Classic really was. I played WoD and it sucked, WoW nowadays sucks, mostly because of 100000 difficultys. I loved that not everbody was able to see everything. You had to work for it. I loved Sunwell back then mostly because it was hard af. I want Classic also to be hard, but i dont know how it was on Nost.

So my question is: How hard was raiding on Nostalrius? I mean was it possible to clear MC etc. on the first evening or was it still hard, so you gonna wipe your ass off?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english, its not my mother tongue

Obviously Nostalrius was not 100% identical replica of vanilla WoW - no server can ever reach that because of issues with emulation and lack of information. I personally believe that, despite some issues, by the end we had better MC, BWL and ZG than any other private server. Obviously I'm not an impartial observer in this matter.

As for difficulty, we had guilds banging their head against Razorgore for 3 hours before calling it. We had guilds taking four-five hours to clear Molten Core.

I think dungeon difficulty should be a very high priority and the devs should work on making AQ and Naxx very hard, not only to increase the longevity of the project but also because ya'know.. blizzlike.

Mc and bwl isn't very hard indeed. Razorgore is sometimes hard for guilds that are not geared at all, when killing mobs is too slow it can overwhelm you, but later on you don't even worry, u just aoe all mobs in the middle and focus fire drakes. Not geared guild need to resort to fearing, hibernating drakes or having a hunters kite them. Obvious disadvantage is that once you get some designated warlock/druids killed u get loose dragons, which might cause dead healers and problems pile up... fast. Vael was a gear check dps race and "watch ur aggro" issues.

Honestly when I think about it now, MC was a raid that made sure everyone start to learn their classes and get to follow some simple rules (focus lava spawns, move in, move out). Garr was a first control fight, on Geddon you'd wipe everytime some1 didn't know he was the bomb. Bwl put more emphasis on cooperation (suppression room), nefarian, chromagus. Later raids started being a preparation fest, for AQ u needed people to farm for nature resi gear, warlock with shadow resi gear to tank Twins. Basicly it would require same skillset as a guild as mc and bwl + more consumables and resi gear. Naxx40 would be utlimate test... progression is rather hard there, bosses are brutal as fuck, u need every1 to be performing perfectly, have all consumables, all buffs, imba gear... and u can still fuck up because there is such a thin line between getting boss down and wiping horribly.

Agree, lot of time... but also IQ and skill ;P and time :P and worst of all... u can kiss ur progression goodbye if u're terribly entitled lootwhore. Basicly u either agree to gearing up for MOOONTHS, having periods of raiding where u don't get even single smallest upgrade for like 6 weeks or get butthurt start screaming "vanilla sucks! 40mans are just fucking stupid, blizzard was right" and quit with feeling you're terrible underachiever... believe me... been there done that;P

Im not trolling, mechanics are way too simple, the hard way of vanilla is the commitment and time requirement it demands.
