mobas are zzzz counterstrike:global casualness ZzzZZZ skinfest, 2007scape jagex shit company, I cant seem to think of any other games right now as all other mmoRPGs are like fat hookers compared to Vanilla WoW.

The type of game you're looking for: Community oriented, time-requiring MMORPGs, are a thing of the past. This is why Everquest is nothing like what it once was, or why DaoC was sold to another company for redesign and new management.

Video game quality is in a pretty bad spot right now. RTS games like Starcraft 2: HOTS were a complete dissapointment to me, with the single player campaign being extremely easy (even the achievements in hard aren't difficult, and I had to go above the game's targets and play it all in brutal), story being lazy and simplistic, and it all being super short.

The way the video game market works nowadays is for fast-paced, streamlined, games with high visual and sound quality, that allows for casual use: Play 40 minutes, leave for work, play another 40 minutes, go have lunch, etc.

That's why MOBAs are the big flare of online gaming, why RTS are assessed much more for the multiplayer matches (again 15-45 min duration), or why FPS is still going strong. Single player RPGs are maybe an alternative for you, I think stuff like Elder Scrolls or the Fallout series have received good feedback. I don't play them myself so I can't really comment.

For my part, when I have time to play videogames I either play a bit here, or if not, load old emulators for SNK arcade games or 90s-2000s RTS games.

dude! I feel the exact same, starcraft 2 was the letdown of the decade. I was so excited, I was really into the SC BW korean e sport scene, i loved the campaign, I was finally getting good at BW, then sc2 comes out and its like wtf it just shit on a whole gaming culture/movement that was SC BW.

Like everytime I try to talk to someone about how todays games are complete dumpster trash im met with "you're living in the past" "you complain about everything" (not true i only ever complain about games) "just enjoy the present" (rofl sure let me enjoy this tasty shit).

And me too, whenever I don't play vanilla WoW, im playing WC3 multiplayer or campaign, Super smash bros melee with friends, bullet hell games... oh well I guess the golden era of gaming is over :( Casuals have ruined another one of my hobbies

Popular culture hobbies are all decadent right now, I think it's part of a systemic problem really that affects everything.
I quite like(d) comic book stories and characters. The kind of stuff being pushed out by both Marvel and DC right now, resetting franchises when they run out of ideas on what to do, or chiming on political content is really off putting and I've stopped collecting it as a result.

It seems the only hobbies you can rely on, are those you control. Painting, doing rock sculpting, maybe building something with your own hands and tools (carpentry for instance), or collecting your own specific list of items (coins, stamps, books, who knows). The way it's looking, everything that emanates from a big corporation is going to be subject to profit gain, and therefore caring first and foremost about what sells.

You underestimate vanilla players.

Im pretty sure the population will be fine...I just wish the clustering would be implemented faster the lag is bad though I will agree with that.

Sometimes ill come back home from work and my client is still sitting at the character screen; still logged in from the morning. Doesnt seem like this should be possible.

Bluefear wrote:Queue would be nice

Or an IP ban on China

Or you could do a little entrapment thing where Nostalrius staff makes a fake Xiangghouhong etc character, sells people gold, pockets the cash to make a second server, and ban whoever buys the gold.

That last one might be the best idea I've ever had there are literally no downsides

Yes. Ban china, ban gold sellers, ban fake characters and kick AFKers. This would be enough + possible queue at 10k cap and here we are 8-)

Everyone asking for a queue or banning of players of specific nations really didn't think it through.

A queue is no option as this will only result in hours of waiting, and no, you are not going to like waiting for 5 hours before being able to enter the game, and this is what it'd result in, if not more.
Everyone will try to stay online for as long as possible and raids will have problems as players won't be able to turn on their PC soon enough to be able to raid.

I'm not even going to start arguing with the retards asking for chinese players to get banned.. but to tell you this: there's ways of changing your IP and / or your client language. This simply isn't a solution.

What are we left with?
- Clustering (soon TM)
- - not a permanent solution either, there's more issues to overpopulation than just lag
- opening new servers
- - someone has to pay for those

Why not refer people to other servers?

More players here = bad
More players there = good

It's a win for everyone. Like you said, June is a long time away and people are already quitting...
