This actually. Seems like an unpopular opinion (based on most of the comments about wanting legit legacy servers), but I don't really trust Blizzard even a bit with this. First of all, they likely would not use the old client - they would just try and adapt the new one. And from then on it becames a game of which features they'd choose to remove.
In the end I doubt we'd end up with anything different from a monetized funserver, to be honest.

This is why I yell "MOJANG MODEL" every opportunity that I get. They've already laid the blueprint for how you tie centralized accounts in with decentralized private servers and get wildly successful doing it.

The way blizzard is handling this is 'toxic' in itself. So i see why some people are reacting like that.
