That's because it was. And even in the long term, still had major issues.

Still, I prefered it over Kronos. The whole donate for star coins to buy lvl60 chars, opposing faction mounts etc. thing ruins it for me.

For me the philosophy on the nostalrius server was perfect. And i could live with the issues.
But it's not like we're never going to see a server like this again... if anything nostalrius sat new standards in the private server community. And hopefully more people will prefer servers with philosophies like this one.

What are you comparing it to? Vanilla retail?

The first 6 months of Nostalrius was literally light years better than any previous private server overall

Look I started wow on private servers and once I could afford subsciptions went to retail (last month of wotlk). I was used to the common private server bugs (what is a follow quest ).
Then after mop sucked so hard I went back and discovered feenix and fell in love with it. It amazed me how well scripted it was. After reaching 60 I lost interest because I had no time for vanilla dungeons.

After about a year I randomly saw something about "Nostalrius" and I decided to give it a try (3 weeks after release).

I was stunned, incredible bugfree seriously less bugs than retail it's (was :'( ) so amazing.

But what now? I'm half assed leveling on kronos waiting for nostalrius to rise again.

But Kronos is just plain shit, if you gank a random tard that has admin/gm rights you are instannly fucked.

OP is still right this experience has been unique for the sheer amount of players playing here - Been a longtime since MMOS felt massive.

In my mind "overall quality" means more than good scripts. Even though there are better scripted servers than Nostalrius, I would rather have Nostalrius back for 1 week than play any of those servers for a lifetime.

The massive population just made the experience so great. The meta-game behind stuff like Devilsaur farming, world boss scouting, Juju farming, or even something as simple as getting world buffs evolved to a whole new level of intensity and tryhardness on Nost.
