Undoubtedly. There are essentially 2 types of retail players who spit on the earlier versions of the game:

- The I-only-log-to-raid kind of guy. He loves never having to attune, never having to collect resist gear, never having to farm for his consumables, having his buds get pre-raid gear in a week due to catch up mechanics and dreads returning to the era where work outside of instances had to be done. Also terribly afraid of having guild competition and hates BC due to 'guild poaching'. These are the kind of people for which the Garrison system was created. "You don't want to do anything but raid, that's fine, here, have everything you could possibly want and just keep hitting those instance portals".

- The quintessential casual.
Has a 'life', meaning working a cubicle from 9 to 5, car payments to make and generic phony friends to phone.
Loves anything that can be completed in under 1 hour of time, without requiring any grouping ideally, finds mount collecting to be a great way to pass the time, running old raids to get the perfect 'mog collection or pet battling.

The former will tell you that vanilla sucked because farming isn't fun and he likes to raid as lolret. The latter will tell you, "I have a life" and will proceed to entertain his fulfilled and busy life with transmog competitions and adding the nth mount to his collection.

Although there are a few people from the older expacs left, you're absolutely right, the sizable majority of people playing retail nowadays didn't play vanilla. I didn't either. I didn't have the time or the money to do so back then, so only truly played consistently during wotlk. I am that kind of wrathbaby that went back to see what he missed, and ended up seeing a whole different angle of WoW's history that is not covered by "vanilla iz grind" "TBC is guild poaching" and "QoL is good for me cuz I have life".

The funny thing is, they don't get that legacy servers wouldn't negatively impact live. Once the coding is done by ancillary devs (Mark Kern even volunteered to help do it), all Blizzard has to do is make sure the servers are stable and staffed by regular GMs. Patches can be implemented with the push of a button because they're already done.

Nothing annoys a mediocre person more than seeing someone else thrive. That's why they're so adamant about a topic they have no stake in. It's a classic mental issue. Ever seen those people that get a sense of relief when their neighbour's business crumbles and finally they are earning more with their employee salary? Even if they stand to gain nothing out of it, having their own mediocrity covered by someone else's problems and defeats is a good consolation.

I've yet to see any classic WoW fan go out and say that pearls of 'modern' design like WoD should be shut down and anyone who likes garrison click-and-drag festivals of fun should be deprived from that. I certainly don't think that.

Dr. Doom you're generalizations are to narrow in scope. The raid logger and the casual are accurate but you forget that blizzard also changed the game for the middle ground. You know the, 10 mans are just as hard as 25 mans crews. AKA the people who want to see end game content without being end game level of skill required to see it. No one in vanilla had issues that only 1% of the population saw Nax because they knew the commitment was greater than they could or willing to commit.

Just wondering why he is going to send a private email to Blizzard after 20k. Does he really care about the number or understand our goal?

Momentum is the reason.

Mislav tweets, "@Grummz What do you need 200k for? Just send it immediately. :D"

Mark Kern tweets back, "I want more momentum behind it :) @_brukidm"

200k is kinda unrealistic. +100k is a great milestone but it seems we're running out of supporters accodring to much slower progression for the last 2 days(

This is so true about (at least) r/wow subreddit. They all cry out how they know what they talk about and how they went through vanilla, or tbc or wrath and how they truly don't want to go back, they want to go forward, because in their eyes, despite the garrison failure the game is headed the right direction.

There was recently a thread about how old was your character and you could just see how new people are or how casual they are.

https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/4 ... your_toon/

Of course when I called everyone out on it with my post, I got downvoted to oblivion with only reply of 'tips fedora' = https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/4 ... on/d23qs67

The mainstream wow player is most definetly a newcomer or extreme casual leftover from vanilla/tbc who never did any end game content in either of those expansions. I personally couldn't care less about convenience of LFG and LFR, they are the cancer.

Dunno why, I started also on Wrath (between ToC and ICC I think) and I was enjoying this journey so bar.
