It's no surprise TB is out of touch now after pulling out of any kind of network and disabling comments on everything. I stopped watching his content a long time ago when that happened. I think he needs to just retire from the game industry. I'd still say he was the best thing to happen to this industry, but his time has long since passed. I think people watch him now for sentimental reasons, rather than the reasons they used to. Jim Sterling is the guy I follow now. He's making all the meaningful industry videos. He just made another winner about copyright. Thank god for Jim Sterling.

He does say at the end that he doesn't really know. So don't be too hard on him.

Am I right in thinking that because the server software is Nostalrius's which is contrary to what TB was saying about using Blizzard's software?

Ok but if you don't really know, why make all these big statements about it? This just proves he's speaking from his gut and not from the facts. I don't need another uninformed opinion from some youtube who's past his prime.

The bias is strong here. He uses the same tired argument's that' I would expect from a blizz drone.
The subcriptions are cyclical. ( which is the argument that ion used, suprised to see TB use it. )
They had to shut down nostalrius to protect their IP.
He calls it a " pirate server" throughout the video, typical blizz rhetoric.
Denies that WoW is in a bad state, " The subs will surge again with legion " .
The mmorpg genre as a whole is dying, " people are just sick of MMO'S!"
" Blizz is a great company, i support their right to shut down this server, and i support their right to not create one."
Honestly i'm not suprised, TB is heavily invested in blizzard, he personally manages an esports team for starcraft.
Jessecox is also heavily invested in blizzard, he personally hosted the Q&A section of blizzcon last year.
I think they'll support the company no matter what, because their invested in them and honestly believe them to be a good company.

Let me start with. They are right about most things they say.
They really press on it being illegal and blizzard has to protect their ip. Both are correct.
I just wish they stated that once and then look beyond it, because we all agree on that.

But when it comes to looking for a solution to the situation. Information is lacking, because it's not so easy.
The problem is that we just don't know how well a vanilla server will do. We can make educated guesses, but we won't know for sure, ever, unless Blizzard dares to give it a try. The big problem is the unknowns.
- does the server code still exist? blizzard says no, Mark says yes, myself I find it REALLY hard to believe you would not back it up.
- how many players will still enjoy and play after 3 months? would a mandatory 1 year subscription maybe solve this? are there still enough players left interested in it if a 1 year sub was needed? I don't know
- how many would really switch to a sub based version if free versions are still out there? it of course needs to be sub based. I've also read people want a 1 time fee, but that's just impossible with monthly costs on blizzards end.
- could Blizzard do a 1 year trial run? shut it down if after 1 year it shows it isn't worth it? they would still have to make the whole thing and set it up. With a backed up version this should be possible i think, but again I'm guessing and don't know all the facts about how outdated code may not function anymore. or whatever else needs to be done, I wish blizzard was more open about these issues.

I can only speak for myself. I would play on official legacy servers. I would pay that 1 year sub. I might take breaks, but i take breaks from playing mmorpg's in general. But when I would return from a break i would be coming back to legacy wow. that's the difference.

I just hope blizzard dares to make the jump. not much more I can do.
If all fails, I guess we'll just continue to play on private servers, Blizzard will continue to shut some of them down now and then. And new ones will pop up again after that. Round and round we go.
