There are guilds accepting single slots in their raid for the unusual speccs, you just gotta find them. I personally don't mind this, progression might be a bit slower and raids might take a little bit longer, but I just find it more appealing to have a wider variety of approaches to the game.

Agreed. It is bad advice. For our speed runs I was allowed, rather asked to come Balance. Mind you I was pre-raid BiS, but I was pulling like 640dps on shit like Vael as Balance. Not sure if anyone viewing this thread ever looked into the Druid class thread, but myself with a few others pretty much beat Balance to death with the theorycraft stick. Realistically in the best situation ~1300dps was probably viable.

Even that though. A competent and equally geared DPS such as a Mage or Warlock would have still been better. The only reason I was asked to come as Balance is because we didn't have that caster to fill the healer slot we wanted to cut.

They were actually an incredible class without that talent, which most players didn't even use, and it's why the Alliance were all around better than the Horde until BC. I should point out that skilled Ret Paladins were always dangerous, where as the reckbomb newb was worthless whenever his charges aren't up.

You can play any spec and play the game to its fullest. Just don't expect to get in a top raiding guild. I rarely see class elitism until it comes to the T1 guilds.
