Those other servers surely get letters from blizzards law department as well to the extent they can be found. I would assume that most such servers keep their own names of the books as much as possible, as well as placing their service somewhere where IP means close to nothing (such as Russia).

Then why are they all still active and Nostalrius folded immediately?

Drain, I read your reply too by the way, and that's ridiculous, although expected from Fux news.

Because nost was placed in a country with a functioning judicial system. Nost is not the first private server that gets shut down.

It's not just the location. Most servers are in locations that would be easy to shutdown. Nost was targeted entirely because of its population. If we never got over 1k online, they probably never would have given any shits about us. Other servers ran for years with active populations and never got any attention from them. They have a history within their own games of ignoring problems for as long as possible until it becomes too big to ignore any longer.

As much as I think Blizz' actions were completely retarded, I'm still going to buy Overwatch and will continue playing Hearthstone (without spending RL money on it anymore tho). Just because they fucked up with one game does not mean that I'm not going to play their other games anymore.

If that's the main reason, then why didn't (and doesn't) Warmane get targeted then? Although allegedly they are faking the population, I do think it is still pretty populated. L4G also has around 3k players (if not more?) which will only continue to grow as there are no other decent TBC servers apparently (tbh even L4G itself is garbage).

I think there's a lot more going on that just targeting private servers with high amounts of players...

Uh and so ? There is PLENTY of french private servers, alot of them make money from it and they are still active, for example Firestorm who got 10K players online and sell characters/items for alot of $$

Overwatch is just an updated Team Fortress, that's all. Blizz drones will buy into the hype because they don't know any better.

90 % of all Legacy servers are located in EU. And they are still online.

I don't know why people think that Russia don't give a fuck about IP and copyright. Blizzard can easily hire a lawyer in Russia to drag the host to court. So... wait wait... ok I admit it's not the country Russia who give a fuck about it. They don't hunt down IT pirates. But Blizzard still do :)

The only thing that effected my decision in regards to the purchasing of Overwatch was its gameplay. Whilst its gameplay is fun. The game itself is not if one queues solo. Ergo I cancelled my pre-order when the open beta hit.

However, being the scum that I am. During the refund, (which I was going to get regardless of vanilla or not.) I mentioned I no longer had faith in the company when they shut down non-profit fan projects to play content no longer available legally.

Figured why not hit two birds with one stone :p

My bet is that Nost got targeted because of its population, and so many people were talking about it, and hands down the best one of them all when it comes to emulating the 2006 feeling and gameplay, which makes Blizz look silly. But giving a reason like "protecting ip" etc is pure bs, when there are tons of other servers that also take in money, which nost never did.
