It's too early to say that.

It's only been four or so days.

It just feels like a lot longer when we're all het up.

It's possible what Nost do depends on what Bliz do, and if Nost publish a schedule, it'll have to contain a series of if/then statments (awkward), and it may well be in fact Nost do not want to let Bliz know some of the things they have in mind - it would give the hand away.

has anybody ever tried to just join one of these rogue private server development teams and repatriate what little code they havnt stolen? if they werent going to release the code they still arent going to even though youre here puffing up your chest about your credentials

im also confused about why youre surprised the way private servers have ended up going. if they dont have server code unavailable anywhere else then they have nothing to leverage over other projects. you should have accounted for that when you were in the initial design stage of your own project

Mmm, so, you have guys who've written code for the Vanilla server.

To do anything with it, either they publish the lot (and then other people have to dig through it to find anything worthwhile) or there has to be a project they donate it *to*, where those people look at what's coming in and, crucially, decide if it's any good, or utter tosh and they don't want it anywhere near their server, or sometwhere inbetween.

Given that servers have branched out, I suspect quite typically their code cannot simply be used as-is in other servers. You'd have to work, to get it going in your own code base, so it'd have to be worth having.

Maybe one way forward is for a master mango project to exist - but all these things, being GPL, fork. You never get to keep one master.

There are currently two forks off of the original Mangos project that could be considered "masters". cMangos and (get)Mangos.

No green posts yet regarding source release. It's seems clear on the homepage that they will open the source to everyone.

Blasphemy! C++ is one of the languages of the gods, bettered only by C itself. If it was good enough for Kernigan and Ritchie, it's good enough for the rest of us.

Trinity's core is written in some form of C, I think.

As for master repository, yes that is a good idea but it should've been done years ago. Now everything's forked and incompatible. You have two forks of official mangos, each server makes a different fix for the same problem, and then you have things like classic warcraft that are modified so much that they're not even compatible anymore.
