I think it would be cool if Blizzard supported legacy servers. If they still had the code, I really don't care if most of the team isn't currently with the company. Why does that matter at all? I think the whole point of desiring this is simply to have more security that your characters won't vanish suddenly.

Is Nost a fly by night operation? It doesn't seem like it, but still, our characters are not as secure as they would be if supported by Blizzard.

That all said, even if Blizzard supported them, Nost does at least have a superior management philosophy in terms of coming down hard on cheaters.

If you want this place to be more secure long-term, maybe pitch in and help them out. I think burn-out of the management team is the biggest risk. If the community pitches in and takes a lot of the pressure off, it makes it that much easier to run this place long-term.

Blizzard has said they will NEVER do legacy older expo servers ever since around cata. Because they think that Vanilla / BC / Wotlk where bad, they even have said so on there twitter and people who think they where good see it through rose tinted classes. I for one have been asking for this for a while, but the new dev team of blizz would NEVER do this. Evee there team is against people who want it honestly it's uppseting because ALOT of people would re-sub to wow for legacy servers. Now now i know you all are saying "That's stupid we have privite free servers" but in the end, a legecy wow owned blizz server would always offer more then a pirivite server saddly. and i do feel all privite servers are temp, i mean i want to belive that they aren't but i leveled 1x same class same race, for about 6 years it gets old and you feel old, the grind isn't as bad but the idea of the grind you've done being meaningless because the server will die... It's not if it's when, and trust me i'm a huge BC / Vanilla fanboy.

To be honest, I was at first reluctant to play on privates servers, and specifically Vanilla servers, as the progression can be really slow and tough, and even more for "casuals" just like you (amarite ?).

However, the servers I've played on (mostly nationals servers, around ~300 players) weren't meaned to last.
I've already rolled on several realms, played plenty of toons and yes, one day or another, all of this was and will be lost.

So i wasn't sure about all this Nostalrius thing again.
However I still got to play here since day one, and later convinced my brother to play with me.

Being brothers, we have altough really differents playstyles ; While I play nearly everyday the same and only char, to make him as powerful as possible, he keep rerolling and rerolling (already 3 levels max) charachters of every classes.

One day, as I see him playing another low level Troll Hunter in 10-19 WSG I ask him why he keeps doing this and how useless it is.

Then he managed to say something somehow really deep ;

"Do you still see you playing WoW in 10 or 15 years ? Altough you know you'll still loose all your toons when you die. The point of this is having fun".

For since I changed my view over private servers and realised he was right.
I hope you can all think about this :)

P.S. : Not sorry for bad english until you're able to translate this back to me in french

tl ; dr : 'Muricans won't read this.

Your brother has it right. On Vanilla retail, I spent all my time running different class-spec untwinked toons in low level BGs. Guess what I am doing here again? And why? I have fun doing it.

I think the rot people settle into on retail is developing their toons with boring, long-term goals. For example, I would grind out archaeology and fishing achievements. Really pointless stuff. Maybe the point of this should be to do activities that are just plain fun for you and not worrying about developing your toons long-term on a private server.

Or we could all do whatever we find fun without deciding what's stupid and what's not.

That's pretty much what I am saying, although if someone has fun doing really grindy things for so-called character development, if your fun is achieving the end goal and not the process, it's just a risky thing with that mindset on a private server.

I think it will last for 53 years. Maybe even 54years.

Is anyone else bothered by the idea of using Nost's population to leverage Blizz into adding legacy servers? I don't really want Blizzard paying attention to the population on Nost, not that they haven't noticed.

Many transactions are the future buddy. Blizzard knows that and would rather make a pay to win (or at least pay for advantage) server than some classic Vanilla server that doesn't have any other transactions. They are dumping tons of development money into Legion now. Do you really think they would want to move back to vanilla and have an option to play on a server where you never need to buy an expansion?!

Blizzard is concerned with making money. Blizzard servers for other versions means that nobody has any reason to buy newer expansions to play different content. The fact that you will be left out of new features encourages people to get expansions over and over again.

Long story short: this will never happen. It risks newer expansions flopping or not doing as well and is a terrible business move. If they DO end up doing this, it will be in a different time when they have abandoned updating and improving regular retail WoW altogether.

They have no intentions of doing legacy servers and stated they don't want to bring customers a product that is so called "flawed".
I doubt they've changed their stance on this topic so, your dream of Blizzard making that happen is like curing Charlie Sheen of HIV

WhistlerWCT wrote:Even if they would want to do it, it was disclosed (quite some time ago in some interview) to be nearly impossible to do - apparently Blizzard doesn't have code for server software of older versions anymore.

For the first several years after WoW's release, Blizzard emphatically and repeatedly exclaimed things that they would "never" do, such as have flying in Azeroth, druids would never be able to root indoors, etc.

Just because then, and even now they "have no intention" does not mean they won't ever.

We have to make the wow vanilla private server scene bigger.
Make chinese servers
Make bugfixes public/open source
Make honest/friendly/helpfull comments on subreddits (showing mature content)
More Vanilla servers, whatever is inside, atleast fill it with people.
More vanilla Servers
