The 800,000 accounts (not players) counts the number of accounts created since we launched. Yes, that number includes gold sellers and other spammers too.
The 150,000 active accounts (not players) counts accounts that had been logged at least once in the last 10 days. Yes, some players had more than 1 account - though many players only had one.
The 18,000 concurrent player peak (counting both PvP and PVE) is most accurate but can also be misleading because as we were an international server, the players making up this number changed during a 24-hour period. Additionally, not everyone played daily.
So what is the true player count for Nostalrius? We do not know. It has to be more than the concurrent peak for the reasons I outlined above and it has to be lower than the number of active accounts. If you want to be conservative, between 40,000 and 50,000 players sounds about right - but it could be higher than that.
And don't say that we should count IP-addresses. Vast majority of our players were on dynamic IP to begin with and some of our players used VPNs to play.
So in the end, please don't cite just one number and claim "X PLAYERS ON NOST!!!" as that can be misleading and just gives ammunition to the naysayers who try to marginalize us. Use all three figures instead and be careful not to mix up the terms! Though seeing so many games journalists repeatedly mess this up gives me very little hope.
