From what I gather, this whole bad PR has hopefully shaken up enough to change policy. Also, the lead devs on WoW are Activision plants, they never worked on it before cata. They have a mentality that they know best because reasons. J. Allen Brack and his "you think you do, but you don't" bullshit.
Also, he told me some employees did play on Nost, their bosses knew about it, and it was not spoken of at work. You know, "research" purposes.
My hunch is based on this information, the timing of the shutdown, and an understanding of economics and marketing. Blizzard is in a situation to rebuild good will with many fans, make a good amount of money for low cost, and bring more visibility to their brand. This of course happens if rational decisions are made, but we all know how that goes with Blizzard.
Still conjecture, but if there's much depth or truth to it (not calling you a liar!) then that's exactly what I was asking for, thank you.
Not to mention, we all have wondered if Blizzard ever checked out Nostalrius for themselves, and I would easily believe that employees there would have given it a go, even if just for "research" like you said.
If any of this you speak of comes true, then I will be first in line to hoist you aloft and chant your name - even if just for the fleeting hope we have in these dark times.
