A lot of thanks, but no thanks replies.. I am just as disappointed as you guys about no vanilla servers, but putting that hurt aside, am I the only one that is somewhat intrigued about these pristine servers?

Why not change it into full on Dark Souls difficulty type servers? Sure the world would still be post cataclysm, but if all those mentioned features are removed in combination with a massive upgrading in difficulty, I for one would be interested in playing that.. Super difficult with slow leveling? Hell it might actually be a fun experience..

I'm just thinking outside the box here people, I prefer vanilla, but if that's not going to happen, and if Blizzard keeps shutting down servers, I for one am somewhat interested by the sound of this..

Press Like on the post made by Gathorion on page two, it's spot on.

Maybe that's fine as a separate concern. But, no it's not what people playing on legacy private servers would want on the whole I'd say.
Casual and proud.

The only positive thing in this post is that they are talking to Nost crew, everything else is PR bullshit with 0 meaning (Pristine realm, ROFL). If the Nost crew can somehow start working for Blizz "then" and only then I would have some faith in their future plans. As for now this was a strategic move to try to tone down the momentum of the Vanilla movement before Mark Kerns petition thingy reaches Blizzard.

Note that they repeat how "hard" it is to do it (really...), like we haven't heard that excuse before.

"You think you do, but we don't give a shit and unless there was a PR-storm we would not even adress your concern. Now here is a blue post and shut the fuck up!"

The "Pristine" servers are an idea of Tom Chilton. Tom used to work for the Ultima Online team. Ultima Online ran "Siege Perilous", essentially a hard-mode server for experienced players.

I too feel that J Allen Brack is disingenuous on the part that says that "We explored options for developing classic servers and none could be executed without great difficulty".

There is some hope though since they are talking with Nostalrius. Licensing Nostalrius to run a Vanilla server is not completely out of the question though Brack stubbornly insists that such servers would not be profitable if ran by Blizzard.

I am sure you are absolutely right on that, was mostly talking about myself that the new content might actually be enjoyable, 'somewhat' going towards Vanilla content, if it was old school difficult with slow progression..

Not sure what to say... having found MaNGOS on what Nostalrius is based and having a century of my life's work invested in this project, the community, everything, teaching hundreds of developers about the client, internals etc. I am now insanely pissed that the Open Source community providing everything that Nostalrius is based on is being left out.

This feels like a giant betrayal of all kinds.

This pristine realm is pure BS. EQII did something like that for their legacy servers. God, it sucked like a hoover.

They just delivered a castrated version of their current game and said - it's you legacy server u've craved. So Blizz thinking to do the same shit .It DOESN'T work this way.]

All they need is to take mangos opensource if they don't want to reinvent the old coding, but heck, "it's too difficult" for such a big company :D

What did you expect though? A letter of how much you helped the community grow? You are all criminals in the eyes of blizzard, as dumb as it sounds.

... and Nostalrius taking our work and violating our use license are not criminals then? What an interesting view of the world.
