This is win-win situation for Blizzard anyways.

Officially supported Blizz-like Legacy servers makes playing in Private servers obsolete. Vanilla/TBC needs so much time invested that people who like to have genuine playing experience will just hop to supported servers.

Blizz-like private server scene will mostly have non-paying scrubs left in servers. So service quality/ active playerbase will be shadow from former times.

So more money to blizzard and destruction of pirate competition same time.

Whoah, we have some really toxic people here for whom I highly doubt if they have read my whole topic. I'm repeating again, for me personally 11 euros per month is not an issue but how can't you get the main point of this topic? The game is over 10 years old, it does not require any new content patches etc... It's just old and finished game and isn't that more than enough reason to not have monthly subcription fee where on other hand you have other ways to compensate it (as I already said, for example, to be forced to buy always last expansion if you want to play on vanilla realms or/plus to have options to buy some cosmetic things just like in Guild Wars 2)? It's not about the money here, its about the principle.

Why should they invent an alternative way to make money when subscription is the best? We all know Blizzard cares a lot about a principle: MONEY. :D And we dont blame them for that.

Because that same Blizzard said once: "Don't be too greedy."

You know there are actually people who like to use vanilla servers at home for family too? Some use it to create stories and events based on WoW story for machinima etc. It's overly simplified to just call everyone non-paying scrubs. There are way more reasons for private servers than just lack of cash.

Well i don't think that they should charge us for the game we already paid for but I can see how a subscription would work, gotta pay for servers gm's and stuff. I would play both legion and vanilla.

Hammersplat you made one very good point there and that is that we already paid for that game. And how can Blizzard afford for gms? Same as other mmorpg titles did it, as I told few times already, look how Guild Wars 1/2 solved it and Blizzard can go even further to say for example that we will need to buy Legion (and every expansion after Legion) in order to play on legacy realms. Official legacy realms would be in pretty much the same position as Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Warcraft III/Frozen Throne where you just buy finished product and you can play it ONLINE IN MULTIPLAYER MOD ON THEIR SERVERS WITHOUT MONTHLY FEE as long as you want.

Honestly, the classic realms should be covered under the current subscription fee. No need to have any separate solutions or purchases.

I'm only interested about the future of Private servers what offers their "product" as public service. Other words - as a game. Other than that I'm fine what people likes to use server emulators.

But what simply gets me triggered - Is the fact that some spoiled and entitled parasites uses our great movement for their personal taste to diminish everything this new evolution of Blizz-like gaming servers have tried to offer its playerbase.

I'm scared that middle of negotiation we start to see mobs with public outcry for limiting financial solutions blizzard should do in order to launch Legacy server. In a moment where all parties are looking solutions for it. It gives not wanted pressure, negative suspicion to size of paying customers and draw down financial interests to launch such services.

Talking with Blizzard about the future of Legacy servers is the next step - way to evolve Blizz-like Legacy server scene with a trait no players have had before: constancy of service. And that's the big word right there.
