Asking not to be told how to play is fine. The problem is when they not only wanna be told how to play the game, but wanna get invited to groups or even raids and guilds and think its unfair that others then take their spec into account.
Non-jerks who don't play these specs tend to only see phrase in this context.
Druid: Hi I'd like to join your guild, I'm feral dps.
Recruiter: Hi. Sorry, but we don't use feral dps in our raids. If you are interested in healing we might have a spot for that though.
Druid: Don't tell me how to play. I pay for this game. Damned elitist.
