They wouldn't do cross realm BGs unless both servers were on the same patch. Such as old server waiting for Naxx with AQ farmed by most, and new server with AQ released with casual guilds attempting to progress.

If then at this point, if they had to look into cross-realm BGs, that means there might be a pop issue somewhere. If there ever comes to a time where there is a pop issue on either or, and both are on the same patch, they'd prob just merge the two servers at that point. If it ever came to that.

The newcomers that say the old PvP realm will be dead should be reminded of the 1 year statistics picture.
http://i.imgur.com/jxtOQlu.jpg These numbers are dating 1 month approximately before the announcement of shutting down. Please pay attention to the level distribution and the amount of players in the respective brackets that are below level 60. Why is that none of the players that are shitting on the old PvP realm can actually present any proof of their claims, except some lame public poll that's mostly full of feces to be fair? Given that the PvP realm was overcrowded compared to the PvE one (was it 13-14k/5k pvp/pve highest peaks?), feel free to extract some percentage out that's going towards the old PvE realm of the numbers given in the statistics. And now that Nostalrius has been hyped to the high heavens, there's no way someone can convince me there will be no fresh blood going towards the old PvP realms. You have to be mental to believe that (sorry if you really are).

I don't want this post to be accepted as offensive towards the new players that have never played on Nostalrius before, but the "bla bla bla the old realm will be dead bla bla bla everyone's going to the new realm" posts are getting old now. I really do wish all three realms a fruitful population and happy leveling, raiding, grinding, ranking, whatever. We'll get a release date tomorrow hopefully and we'll see at re-launch who's right. My advice is to go out, get some fresh air, drink some water and work out a bit because we won't get a chance after that. Gotta farm that Black Lotus, boiiiii.

There's no rhyme or reason but there are a lot of people actively posting to say the old realm will be dead and to come join them on the fresh realm. They ignore all facts (confirmed guilds and people returning, popularity, brand, etc) and logic to post these things. My only guess has been that these people are terrified of rolling on the new realm and it turning out to be not as stellar as they had hoped. I've tried to assure them that won't happen. But people just respond with more threats that the old realm will be dead and warning that we will all regret going back there rofl.

You can liken it to people who play on live servers I guess. A portion of people playing Legion right now post on official forums belittling anyone who even remotely enjoyed Nost and wants to continue playing on legacy servers no matter where they end up. Basically making your own decision, which is different from their own, makes you an insane crazy person who they claim will ultimately meet some kind of terrible demise. They are afraid something bad will happen to Legion when people begin playing on Nostalrius realms again. They are incapable of just saying, "oh you like Legacy? Good for you enjoy it." For some reason other people's decisions are tied to their misery.

So the same seems to fly in these forums. People who have decided they will ONLY be playing on the fresh start realm are posting nonstop hate towards anyone who decides to do anything outside of their own choice to start fresh. They too are scared something might happen to hurt their experience if they can't convince every single person that lives and breathes to roll on the fresh realm. They will go to any lengths to do this including shit posting and lying to everyone and themselves that the original database servers will be dead. Any person with a brain knows that just isn't the case.

Can you not just say. "Oh you want to play your old characters? That's cool I hope you have fun."

Apparently a lot of people CANNOT live their lives peacefully if you don't choose to play on the fresh realm with them. It's really disturbing and some of you should really go seek professional counseling about such an issue. And I'm being 100% serious about that.

The main fact and reason why our guild is focusing on the fresh server, is because once a fresh server opens up, most new people will rather start on the newer server, thus alienating the OG pvp server.

I would rather continue on, but that is my main concern and for a safer longevity, playing on the fresh servers might be a better choice.

With the new announcement, it seems clear they will go ahead with the new server regardless of the consequences it will have the existing PvP server. The new team certainly is creating more and more headaches for itself down the road. Newer players will always be recommended by all social platforms to join the fresh server for a better, more fresh experience. Creating a drought on the old realm of new players. The memes of the old server becoming the "PTR" of the new realm has already started.

This is Kronos all over again.

Literally the only thing implemented from the list of possible solutions I posted earlier is that they may take a couple of weeks longer to release a new server. They are already backtracking on that. "Clarifying" that it will take upto 3-4 weeks maximum after the relaunch of the old.

Yes, I have invested a lot into the old server from Day 1, but once the new realm comes online, I'm there. You cannot pass up the experience if you like MMOs. The world PvP will flourish. The community will be hustling & bustling all over the world; questing, gathering mats, doing 5 mans, making friends and enemies, while the old server folks sit on their barrels and wagons in Ironforge waiting for the BG queue to pop or the clock to tick 7:00 to start heading out to clear farmed raids.

The eff do you expect people to choose?

crazy... ppl rly want to get all ppl to play on old / new realm...

they both will be overcrowded 5 to 10 times more than retail cap! id like to see a cap at 2.5k to 6k. id rather deal with a 20hour queue than having old 16k online old nost again and quit again because of not beeing able to play anything near blizzlike when everythibg is overcrowded.
i know for ppl who only want to do worldpvp its nice but i think the majority would prefer a cap to make the whole game aspects be playable.

again... every server will be way to overcrowded even if they would bring out 3 new realms imo.

The whole fresh start stuff is over anyway after 6 months, from then on its just a decision if new people roll on a less populated or more populated server, a pve or pvp server, a server with aq out or a server with bwl out. Compare that to warsong vs. emerald dream, warsong always had more people on it. How can you think that any of the servers will be low in population, are you kidding? :)

Besides... dont we all want all servers to be populated?
