You mention that incomes in some countries are pretty low (for example countries in East-Europe), but ironically a lot of people in these countries consume excessive amounts of alcohol and cigarettes which aren't exactly health or money enhancing agents. Also as an example, I had a Bulgarian roommate who didn't have enough money to buy food, yet was able to buy a pack of cigarettes a day. Being a ex-student, I can also tell you that many people are just downright lazy to look for a part time job.
So yes, some people really cannot fork over 15 bucks for a monthly subscription, but I'm pretty confident that most people are just lazy or have terrible money management skills.

Completely true, but there is one thing I don't like at all about a subscription based model. I remember when I played retail WoW, I felt forced to play the game sometimes even though I sometimes didn't want to. Although 15 bucks is a miniscule amount of money to pay per month, it still feels like some kind of commitment and that I have to play the game to get the most bang out of my buck so to speak.
I'd rather pay more money for a game (possibly even in the form of expansion packs or patches) rather than being stuck to a subscription based model
