Help me understand something here please. Why do the devs insist on massively overpopulating Nost and then making facebook, twitter and forum threads boasting such HUGE WORLDWIDE NUMBERS. What is the benfit in having 15k over 5k people? There isn't any imo. It HURTS the server overall. Bigger is not better in this case.

As I understand it, Nost is entirely F2P. What do the Devs gain by having MORE players? There is no general donations or ad revenue in play so what is the underlining benefit of acquiring more players here? Is it an ego thing? What else can it be, I am genuinely concerned. Thanks.

Something along those lines yes. They certainly cannot simply let the PVP server keep steadily increasing in population- it is unsustainable. Even with better hardware no vanilla server is supposed to have 10k ppl online nevermind 14k at EU peak. They need to CAP the server to preserve any semblance of the vanilla wow experience.

Split the server would be a solution.
EU/NA/Asia

And then making a realmpool with pvp.

Ego + selfishness?

The amount of time and money they're spending on this server "clustering" (that's now delayed until at least June) could've been devoted to a second PvP realm.

Oh well, there's always Kronos. Their population is growing steadily as they take in more Nost refugees.

They need to have multiple PvP servers. Boasting Nostalrius as a 'Blizzlike' server is just a lie at this point with the ridiculous population. High pop vanilla servers back in the day were capped at 2.5 I believe, maybe 3k but no higher than that and the game thrived then. The delay is unbearable as well, the PvE server is much better right now with no delay ever and an actual Blizzlike pop - I wouldn't mind having ~5k even but anything over that becomes a bit too much imo, the delay really starts to kick in then too. And this is coming from someone who loves world PvP, it was worth it to me to lose that aspect of the game to play on a truly blizzlike realm w/o delay

I love all the new players in starting zones, I hate having to chase them to kingdom come with the to far away message though. Win some lose some I suppose.

System Administrator of a medium sized business here.

The Nostalrius devs need to fix this overpopulation problem quickly. Based on how many server crashes they've had recently, they probably have a few more months before it's basically unplayable, players get frustrated, and then they move to other private servers.

HOW TO FIX:
1. Set up a crowdfunding page, there are plenty of websites online for this.
2. Buy more servers with the funds.
3. Everyone is happy for a while until the population grows.
4. Repeat until people are no longer interested in Nost.

It's that simple really. The only thing that should be stopping them is the possibility of Blizzard coming after them for making money with their product (even though it's just going to their server costs). Technically, they're already in a legal 'grey area' for running this server as it is because of copyright laws.

If they REALLY wanted to fix things, they'd purchase servers in the US, Europe, and Asia so that the ping is low and the players are more centralized.

They don't even need to make the toons synced across the servers, people would probably be okay with just sticking to their own local server.

If they don't fix this soon, it's their own fault. If the devs want any free help from me, just send me a PM or something. I doubt they'll even read this post, though.
