Do the chinese lack common sense or...

by WorstmageNA » Tue Mar 01, 2016 11:29 am

do they just assume they own the server?

Ever since my mage hit 60 yesterday I've been approached over 10 times by random players who just open trade and whisper me empty chat bubbles(mandarin). It's obvious that they're asking for food or maybe gold??? but even after I tell them "english pls" they just keep whispering 2 or 3 more times in their language and then walk away.

This is the same in the open world while leveling. I would be killing quest mobs and be approached by people who just say empty chat bubbles or when I approach them and say "INV" it's the same.

So if there is any Chinese player here in the forums that actually speaks English, can you give me some insight on why this happens? Is the Chinese population so big that the average Chinese player will always encounter people speaking their own language? making them assume that everyone in the server is actually Chinese?

It IS possible to communicate with everyone, if you follow a few steps :

1° Uninstall EN WoW Client.
2° DL and install Chinese WoW Client.
3° Learn Chinese
4° Now you can both interact with the Nostalrius community and the Chinese Community. :D

Of course, you have to buy a chinese keyboard too.

I dont think all of them can type English characters easily.

I made a Chinese friend last week and at first he was only typing bubbles.
After about an hour he figured out I couldnt understand him so he began typing things like 'Go to burning village', 'Wait here for me' & 'It's getting late here. Bed soon.' Takes him a little while to type every sentence so I suspect they have to run it through Google and paste or use a modifier key to type.

Not all Chinese players are incapable of typing English. Those that can't should just be ignored.

The problem isn't the Asian people and the fact that they struggle to communicate in English as they use a different alphabet thingy and different sentence construction.

I think that the real problem are peoples expectations. For example, for OP it seems to be a huge problem or even an insult that 10 players have tried to communicate with him using an Asian alphabet...

For me this is a minor inconvenience. Personally I have played on many different serves in EU through the years and on retail it have always been a MINOR inconvenience when players use different languages so this is nothing new. In fact, Nostalrius is the best realm I have played on when it comes to English language usage as only English is allowed in public chats.

What it alls boils down to. Asian people love World of Warcraft just as much as anyone else but unfortunately they use a different alphabet and don't learn English from a young age like most of us other people. This will lead to problems for sure on an English International Server. But some people seem to think it's the end of the world

of warcraft.

Please stop referring to chinese players as "The Chinese"
Some chinese players actually want to play the game just like you. :/ It's unfortunate that racism is so deeply embedded in our culture that we would clump together such a large group. I have a couple friends who are Chinese in this game (we speak in a mix of Chinese pinyin and English) and they really just want to have a good time and hang out. If someone approaches you and trys to speak Chinese, maybe say something like:

"Wo bu hui shuo zhongwen." (“I can not speak chinese.") if you really want to get them off your back.

It's a French server but they have clearly stated that the English language rules on this server. If the Chinese cannot assimilate, then they should play somewhere else.

It's not just about them speaking Chinese... don't get me wrong, i love east Asia but the latency from there to Europe is over 300 in most cases and that is too much for a game.
