Would you chip in for a new server?

by Titoretritoe » Mon Mar 21, 2016 7:14 pm

Hi everyone

First off, I really appreciate all the work the Nostalrius team is doing. The servers are awesome and I am thankful that someone is willing to do this for free. With that being said, there obviously is a problem with overpopulation and lag at the moment. I adore open PvP, in my opinion the most fun aspect about this game, but its just not enjoayable with this overpopulation and delay on top of it. After reaching lvl 35, I couldnt take it anymore and finally gave up. Constantly misstiming ice blocks because of lag, and having to fight for every single quest mob gets retarded after a while. (Im sure there are tons of peope who are in the same boat)

Now, my question would be, would the Nostalrius team be willing to open another PvP server if we get a donation drive going? Im willing to bet that we could raise enough money for a new server. (And, speaking for myself, I also would definitely be willing to donate 5-10 bucks a month for upkeep costs).

Edit: To the mods, PLEASE dont delete this thread. I know this comes up every now and then, but I would love to see a healthy discussion on this matter, and maybe feel out the possibilities in terms of donations.

Yes, I'd cough up 5 to 10 bucks for a second pvp server, and I'm p. sure that quite a few others would, too.

It will prolly never happen, according to the GMs prior replies but YES--i would throw down 50$ or more for a new PVP server. 1 sec+ delay on EVERY key press whenever population is over 9-10k is unplayable and upsetting.

I don't know if it's even financial at this point. When they said to donate to the provider, so many people were saying they would donate and some said they would cover months at a time.

It seems that it would either be:

A.) They want to see how big they can make a single server (social experiment)

B.) Do not have the staff to man an additional server

C.) ???

If thats the case, thats pretty fucked up in my opinion. As you said, people are more than willing to pay for a new server...

It would be nice with one or two more pvp servers with character transfer between them BUT Nostalrius have been 100% clear; no such thing is planned at this time and they are focusing on the cluster project instead.
Also I don't think it's a matter of money but mainly a matter of time. The Nostalrius team is working for free on their spare time so even if you gave them 1million euro, who would do the work when you can't pay anyone? They have made it very clear that they don't want to touch any money (that is how Blizzard shuts down private servers) so now you can only donate directly to the server host.

You have to keep in mind that its not enough to have enough money to start the server. We should gather enough money thats enough to maintain the server for at least a year. Otherwise its pointless and too shaky.

Clustering might solve the lag issues but thats not the only problem. The pvp server is reaching game breaking levels of population. And from 14-15k it will be butchering the game world because it was not designed for that many people. To be honest its already ruining the original experience. It should never be more than 8k but 10k max.

I would definitly chip in 5/10/15 or even 20 Euros a month for a fresh Vanilla PvP Server.
If there is a trustworthy neutral 'fund' of a 3rd party where we can donate to, then I'm 100% sure it is doable.

But getting a good team of GM's I think is something worth looking into more.
.. in purgatory until a new vanilla pvp realm is opened.

There's already another PvP server with ~2k players on it... A lot of whom recently fled Nost to play there.

And you can even level a character faster for the next few days (ends on the 28th).

Honestly, why do all you sit around complaining instead of doing something? Nothing will get fixed if your best solution is to whine a lot.
