Based off the costs they linked in their financial post, wasn't it a few hundred USD per month? Has the community come to a consensus on how to best pay for the current server (Like a community pool so people can donate $5 - $15 a month?) If we had a median of the server pop let's say 8,000, donate $5 a month We could have $40,000 a month for the server. That would pay for the costs for both servers for over a year and/or be able to hire staff to actually GM the servers in question. There is a solution to the problem out there, we just need someone to come up with it. Discuss.

Id rather have a few subpar GMs than a server that you cant really play on at the moment.

Yes, I meant to put in there the caveat that IF (which appears to a fact, not an if) it would be something which Nost could get in trouble for, they or the 3rd party should find a way to compensate said staff in a non financial way. I'm no lawyer but in the US for instance (and this is not an apples to apples comparison) a priest can get paid $1500 a year for his work for the church. That's his taxable income. However, the church can then give him stipends for food, housing, travel, etc... which he's not taxed on. So while it looks like he's making $1500 he's really making $200,000. I'm sure there are some lawyers out there who could figure something out.

That being said, if no one can, then scrap compensation.

Get volunteers. Pottu has sent people over to Tyrael to volunteer as GM's in the past.

You are on to something here though. It would be nice with some way to help co-fund Nostalrius and this is actually something Nostalrius is asking for.

The organization requirement comes from the fact that our provider requires a single transaction. Thus it will not be possible for players to donate a few periodical Euros/Dollars here and there, rather it will be necessary for players to group together and find a trusted "foreman" to handle said transaction. An organization in France is proposing "cobanking" allowing multiple players to provide fund to a trusted one. If you know a company/website with similar method of funding, feel free to provide it so we can add it in this post.

I would love to join a non-profit organisation/website thing that collects smaller donations in a safe way and then pay the hardware costs on behalf on Nostalroius directly to the host.

I am with Wrathan here; finding good GM's ain't easy. Nostalrius already struggle with lack of GM's on the two existing servers - with TBC coming up also it will be very hard. Funding is the easy part here.

Can we please get an update on this clustering addition? game is unplayable w/ high pop and I sunk countless hrs into game so I am heavily invested. ty

The only problem i see with creating another server, is all of the Chinese will play there too. The only time the lag becomes unplayable is when they are online in mass. It's a new opportunity for them to farm and sell gold. Making a new server would not so much reduce the population as it would simply give them another source of income. New server, same issues.
