ikehype wrote:Thanks for the reply! I didnt know grinding was so good. I am currently doing all the quests in area whilst killing other mobs all the way to and from the objective, so its best of both world i guess. It seems to be slow but thats probably because it is Westfall. Surely just grinding would leave you very lacking in the gear department?
Also you didn't quite address my question . Do you have a link to said guide or even a list saying or even showing which zones are good and what level they require. A list from 1-60 of just zones people leveled in and at what levels they did them at. I am a really big Vanilla noob so i do not know much about leveling.
Thanks

Westfall is over crowded, and the quests have heavy competition, but there are still plenty of good spots to grind.
In terms of gear, I usually find the gold I can make from grinding to be sufficient enough to buy BOE upgrades every few levels. Its very important to stay ahead on gear for solo play even if you are mostly questing, so if anything grinding would be superior in this regard. There are very few quests that give legitimate upgrades outside of dungeons, compared to the BOEs that are around. But I sold out a while ago and made a farming main first so I could level up other characters easier.
No, I don't have any lists. The best I could do is google for you, so just experiment with what you are searching and you'll find what you need for sure. Regardless, here is a brief outline of what I usually do.
1-12 starter zone (under 4 hours)
12-21 Loch Modan beasts around the town/Westfall quests if needed.
21-28 Darkshore beasts and undead.
28-34 Southshore beasts around Durnholde. Just circle it killing everything in sight, including along the wall when you get east.
34-38 Crushsomething ogres in Alteriac mountains. VERY high density, very high silk cloth drop, and very little competition. They are behind the Elite area where the Christmas event eventually goes in later expansions.
38-41 Dustwallow Marsh. You can come here earlier if you need. There are all manner of assorted beasts, but specifically you are looking for the Raptors. There are 35-37 raptors north and 38-41 raptors southwest where the cave on the map is.
41 is usually where I can buy my mount. I usually have just enough gold at 40, but I usually have to respec to get the 30 point talent, and buy some gear upgrades too, especially on classes that upgrade armor specs. (warrior, hunter, shaman.) Once you have your mount you can start considering questing faster and more consistent. You'll have less competition, and travel times will be 60 percent lessened so its time to start following Joana's. Regardless, I still like to grind out any rested I have to avoid too much inter-zone travel so I'll explain where I do that.
41-43 Eastern Feralas across from the Alliance Flight path there are a TON of beasts along the mountainside. Hug the southern hills heading west until you reach the area with the felled tree as a bridge around the lake that the Horde town is built in, and turn back and do it again. This is where I grind out the cash I need for the mount too, as they drop TONs of beast-specific stuff like meat and hides. Bags usually fill up before I ding a full level.
43-45 is prime time for questing. Feralas and tanaris quests become much easier but you can grind the vultures and dogs just north of Gadgetzan in Tanaris. Very high density, low impact mobs that aren't ever being killed for any reason. Just be careful of multiple pulls.
46-48 has a GREAT little spot that really exemplifies the strengths of dynamic spawns. Its hard to describe, but its basically right next to the graveyard spawn for Dire Maul. If you've never done the place its very difficult to describe, but what you are looking for is a little pocket of beasts near a large flattened area with a big tree in it, just east of where the Road turns to begin north. If you know where the graveyard is, its the hill right behind where you would spawn when dead.
48-50 there is some REALLY good grinding on vultures in the far end of Tanaris near the ogre ruins. Basically look around the Dragon bones and farm away. Extremely high density and always respawn before you can kill them all.
50 onward is a lot of questing.
Searing Gorge -> Ungoro -> Felwood -> Winterspring.
At this point if you are a Mage > Paladin > Priest > Druid its time to start DMe farming, which is a topic for another day.
If not, keep following Joana's guide!
