Rogue/Hunter Professions

So I am going to have rogue and hunter... and I want to have skinning - Leatherworking on one and Mining - Engineering on the other, but cannot decide who to get what.

Also they may not level simultaneously, so only one will benefit from the other profession... the one that will level first will only benefit from his prof.

Here is what I am thinking:

-Engineering can make weapons and ammo for hunter, but mining is better on rogue cause he can stealth into caves and get minerals fast and with minimal combat.

-hunter is better farmer than rogue, so skinning would be better for him than rogue. (although leather are very very cheap, skinning wouldn't be a defining factor..)

So basically I would like to have mining on rogue and engineering on Hunter...but that wouldn't pair well..

I cant decide!!! What would you do??

I wouldn't recommend a rogue and a hunter, since they are the most overplayed classes on the server.
Should you decide for them though, just get engi/mining on the hunter and skinning/lw on the rogue. Clearing caves for minerals really isn't a big deal as a hunter, even if you don't want to kill everything you can make your pet aggro everything while you mine. Also mining might break stealth, but i'm not sure about it.

Rogue leveling is super cheap too, so you shouldn't run into money problems even with a worthless profession like skinning.

thanks for answering. Yea, clearing a cave is not the problem, the problem is that always someone else sneak past me and get the node :)...also is not only caves but general places where rogue can sneak and get resources (example elite areas in EP).

I know that hunter is best for engi...I might as well forget LW and get mining on rogue too :)

I did the exact same thing with my hunter and rogue. Min/Engi in the former, Skin/LW in the latter. I never really find myself getting nodes stolen :)
The 2 classes that benefit the most from engi are hunters and rogues. Guns, ammo, practice lockboxes, on top of the trinkets and bombs that are good for everyone, however I find that you will use ammo-making and gun-making while levelling more consistently than you will lockboxes to skill up Lockpicking. Your initial assessment is correct I find.

Why not LW/eng on one and skinning/mining on the other?

earelith, if I were faced with your choices, and I was at one point - I have a 50 hunter and 44 rogue - I would do it the other way round with skinning/LW or skinning/eng on the hunter, and mining on your rogue.

The main reason is that hunters already have plenty of things to track. On this server, I found it beneficial to not be tracking herbs/minerals on my hunter so I could leave humanoid tracking on most of the time. It's nice to know when an enemy is coming and how long you have until you are ganked! lol

Rogues don't track anything, unless it's a dwarf and want to find them shiny chests with treasure tracking. :D

Get herbalism on both. At this point that is most useful profession, if not the only one.

I disagree. First, OP asked about skin/LW and eng/mining, not what you thought he should be doing instead. Sure, herbalism might eventually generate more money than the other professions he mentioned, but that's assuming he wants to find more than 2 herbs per hour on this overcrowded server.

Second, he's talking about characters he hasn't even leveled yet, as well as wanting to produce something with them. Herbalism alone is not useful other than generating gold.

Engineering on your main. You can also drop Skinning and go LW/Engi on one character (plus Mining/Engi) if you want to totally minmax after you've maxed your LW. You can just level both as Skinning and Mining, bank what you gather while leveling, then power level your profs.
