There were plenty of free server ports during retail vanilla WoW to help manage server populations. Doing it here would not be considered "non-Blizzlike".
I understand there are issues with the timeline, but servers would not have to be on the exact timeline, just on the same raid release patch. I'm not asking to make it permanent of course, but allowing temporary server transfers would alleviate many problems faced by the PvP server in particular.
Allowing temporary free ports from the PvP to PvE server would:
- Drastically reduce lag on the PvP server
- Reduce server crashes and resulting rollbacks
- Reduce Disconnects and logging difficulties
- Balance server populations
- Safeguard (relatively) against population spikes from a large amount of players entering from the same timezone at once.
- Reduce the never seen before industrial scale of ganking and camping (inb4 pvp sever - this is NOT Player vs player, its Gangs of Players vs a player 40 levels lower in greens. It IS an issue. I've been playing WoW since 2005 and have NEVER seen anything like it).
- Reduce the mafia style control on resources (not a technical problem I know)
- Reduce the need to increase spawn rates for mobs and herbs/ores
- Reduce to need for quick fixes when the population spikes
- Allow players who invested time in their characters to not have to reroll.
- Allowing players who wanted a PvE experience but invested alot of time on the PvP server before the PvE server was released/announced.
- Having a more Blizzlike experience from a Blizzlike population
There are more as we all know having experience them at some stage. The overpopulation problem on Nost PvP can't be ignored for much longer.
Some people think it will resolve itself by players leaving the server for various reasons, whether its the TBC server, burnout, or just time.
This policy of negligence wont work, the time between these events are too far away and there are hundreds of players joining PvP server every month. Something must give eventually.
Devs -give us some indication that you're doing something and at least consider the above. We all love Nost and dont want to see it become a victim of its own popularity.
Bring control back to the situation and dont wait for it to sort itself - allow us to port characters to the PvE server.
Help us help you.
