Why do people refer to bosses with titles rather than names?

'Princess' is how both Moira Bronzebeard in BRD and Theradras in Maraudon are known.
Thaurissan is referred to as 'Emp/Emperor' as well. And we can go on listing. Rivendare is 'Baron' (just like Baron Longshore in Barrens coincidentially), Lashlayer is 'Broodlord'. Or the worst of all that, 'domo, from Majordomo Executus. With 4.2 Firelands, Staghelm also got to earn the same silly nomenclature.

Only notable exceptions are the titled Generals. Drakkisath, Angerforge or Rajaxx.


It has been this way, but why? Does anyone ever talk about Draghi by starting with "ECB Chairman said" ? Probably not.

If talking about him on third person, I always refer to his last name.
Same with a Magistrate, Parlamentarian, etc. "I heard from Johnson/Cameron/Dobbs..." etc.
Imagine me telling you "So I saw Deputy and he was talking to..."

People use the name that is easiest to type & remember while not being ambiguous. So you can't say "Major" or "General" because noone will understand what you mean.

Honestly, this is a broad generalisation you're making that has a lot of exceptions, even after eluding all the generals.

Language really isn't as nice and regular as you'd like it to be, however your conclusion is more or less correct. It's mostly convenience, and there is nothing wrong with that. Ambiguity and irregularities are okay, and the magical part is that we still understand each other perfectly fine.
