My last wow forum post

Proceed to log in and disenchant every thing in my bags, mailed every thing I owned to others I still knew playing retail. After all why destroy the items and waste the gold when I can just contribute to the massive inflation problem the game already suffers from.

Unsubbed and left them a few thoughts as to why I was quiting the game. My retail account that has been active since BC....until tonight.

For those that would rather not click the links here was my post to blizzard:

A martyr (Greek: μάρτυς, mártys, "witness"; stem μάρτυρ-, mártyr-) is somebody(Nostalrius Begins) who suffers persecution and death for advocating, renouncing, refusing to renounce, and refusing to advocate a belief or cause as demanded by a GREEDY COMPANY (Blizzard).

Today is also the day where Nostalrius will start being community-driven in the truest sense of the word, as we will be releasing the source code, and anonymized players data (encrypting personal account data), so the community(read WORLD) as a whole will decide the form of the future of Nostalrius. We will still be there in the background(read development) if you want us to, but will no longer take the lead.

https://en.nostalrius.org/

By killing this server Blizzard has created a martyr..... The world will always remember Nostalrius Begins and with open source coding ANY ONE will be able to host the best scripted Emulator that the world has ever seen.

The next quotes are takes from a letter sent to Blizzard:

This message is written in hopes that changes may be made possible in the link between Blizzard and volunteer based legacy servers.

We dedicated our free time, health & money to recreate this version of World of Warcraft, more than 10 years after you released the first expansion.

We never saw our community as a threat for Blizzard. It was more like a transverse place where players can continue to enjoy old World of Warcraft's games no longer available

We don’t have the pretention to come up with a complete solution regarding legacy servers that you and your company didn't already think about, but we'd be glad and honored to share it with you if you're interested, still on a volunteer basis.

Do you think that a policy change can be made regarding legacy servers based on volunteers work, for very old no longer supported game expansion?

Prior to the Chinese being aloud on Nostalrius the PvP server was holding 6K-8K players 24x7 and seeing 9K+ players on the weekends. When blizzard released the game the server population cap was 2500 players. Given the size of the player base on this server I'm pretty sure there would be more than enough players willing to pay 15+ bucks a month to keep the server at full population 24X7 and the sub paid by those players would be more then enough to cover the expense of the server.

Based on the numbers provided by Nostalrius
In roughly one year 800,000 players registered an account, including the 150,000 players who are currently active

That would require .0167% of the ACTIVE Nostalrius player base to keep the server at original vanilla player cap. Of course removing the cap would only server to increase the potential profit that could be made.

Bottom line it's 100% not a money thing at this point if Blizzard still wants to kill the Vanilla wow dream. Blizzard claims they no longer have the source code, Nostalrius has recreated the original coding with an emulator that offered SIGNIFICANT improvements to the game. The Nostalrius dev team has offered to run a server on volunteers and continue code development FOR BLIZZARD.

Blizzard wants to keep the past hidden and fool people into thinking that the current iteration of the game is "Better" for every one. They dropped the ball with cataclysm and the shattering of the world in patch 4.0 and have tried to erase proof of the mistakes by refusing to let people play the original version of the game. Is Vanilla Wow for every one....hell no. Is the current version of the game for every one...obviously not as shown by the steady drop in subs ever since the shattering of the world.

While many players may enjoy what they are told are quality of life changes not every one saw it that way. This is coming from someone that has 10 days played time on Nostalrius as a level 48 hunter that only had 4 bag slots because I carry an amo pouch. I also had to feed my pet on a regular bases to maintain "pet happiness". I was actually waiting for my pet to level up so I could find tame a cat and learn the next rank of "Claw" to teach my bear. Was it time consuming, yes...was it worth while....YES, I saw more of the world on Nostalrius in the last couple of months than I have seen in retail wow in the last 3 expansions.
