Well, granted tbc adds more content, I'd say that vanilla keeps giving you a purpose. Thing is, expansions add new things for you to explore but once you've done it all, what do you do? You go back. You go back and do whatever you did before the expansion.

Definitely vanilla.

As above posted said, TBC is just more content.

TBC brings homogenised factions, horrid flying mounts, blood elves, and a dead Azeroth.

It's just not worth it, unless you're a raider.
In which case, why not just play retail?

Eh. There is a case for TBC... but vanilla will always be the sognificantly more popular version of wow. People who think otherwise are kidding themselves.

Well, every time I play wotlk or higher, and am doing a profession, I get this sad feeling, when I have to skill through several expansions worth of content that are totally useless.

Though the by far worst thing about TBC was draenei. Ewww.

But... but... their annoying Mary-Sueish perfection and their holier-than-thou attitude and their irritating elevator music cosmic lightbulb friends. The Holy Light was perfect as an introspecitve philosophy. No need to make it into psychic windchimes. And rewrite lore because of it.

The Broken are mostly alright.

Vanilla = alpha version of TBC.
TBC = improved version of Vanilla. Finally all classes have at least one playable talent spec for pvp/pve.

BC is the best for PvP imo. Larger health pools for more interesting fights, and of course Arena.

I'll be playing Kronos for now until PlayTBC opens on Thursday to see if it holds up with all the hype it currently has. 6k+ accounts created in the past 2 days is a really good sign though, up to the devs there to support it.
