While clearly we are all focused on sending a message to Blizzard that we won't pay for broken games while they ignore their consumers, I think the implications of this event are deeper than just that. While clearly Blizzard has authority and precedence to shut down Nost, it is also obvious that the traffic on this server and support for this server is indicative of demand for quality MMOs that we haven't seen in the past 10 or so years. Hell, even people who never played Nost are speaking up about how bad the game really is. This could become much more important over the following months, if we all truly advocate against large corporate game companies and vote with our wallets we can truly make a difference in the gaming industry as a whole. it's a long time coming that gamers refuse to pay for the trash that companies are attempting to shove down our throats with censorship, advertising, and micro transactions.

a game naturally has to evolve like everything in order to keep interest.
one of the things that made WOW great was it's addictive nature by giving small rewards for a lot of work ( higher lvl, or 1% better weapon / armor)
like every additicion you will need more and more to stay satisfied so they think of more and more to keep players attracted to the game.
and at a certain point you just spew out b*llshit in order to keep people entertained and moving forward from dungeon to dungeon etc.
so it is a natural process that takes place just to keep the hungry people hungry..
if they stopped developing the game in the last 5 years and only add new content then the game gets worn out pretty soon after completing the dungeons and users skip to the next game.
are they forcing us to buy it, no they are not.
but people are a part of a community and they are bound to it, and people do not want to leave that group of close people they rather pay to be a part of the community then leave it.
so people stay and hope for better times, which are not coming ;(
I can only hope that Blizzard will spew out a few pvp / pve servers as a separate entity from WOW
so that you would need a separate installation and a separate monthly bill besides the current active wow for them to discover if it can survive on it's own.

You are never forced to buy anything but nearly all new games are shit for the same reasons WoD is shit, which I listed above. Refusing to buy new games due to corporations killing communities and micro transaction ridden RNG games will make a difference

some board games have been around for thousands of years. why dont you think of those in terms of crippling addiction? people just enjoy playing and it isnt ruining their lives, is that really so crazy? i dont think any of the players on nost would agree with you that the changes made to wow have some how kept it interesting. they are marketing to a completely different audience now who arent aware of the changes that have been made and whether they improved the game
blizz isnt going to host any server that makes wod/legion look like shit, give it up

Giving it up would not solve anything, making our voices heard and helping current subscribers see that Blizzard will ignore them unless they lose subs will make a difference
