Slippery slope of legacy servers

Hi,

My goal is to advocate for pure, progressive-style vanilla legacy servers and cut out grey areas.

People are too black-and-white about the legacy servers, simply having a 'yes' by blizzard, does not guarantee a Nost experience. I've noticed lots of arguments regarding certain changes if a legacy server was to be made. 'i will only come back if vanilla had LFR, i will only come back if they fixed bugs, etc'

Think a little bit about these points:

-vanilla server with updated graphics
-certain bugs and mechanics changed, ie/ view distance, normalization of meele ranges (Tauren > gnome), etc
-ghost run speed up to WoD levels.
-Menu/interface changes

Basically if there is one change, anything other than the PURE-vanilla experience, we will go down a slippery slope of degrading from that experience once again. I loved the PURE-vanilla personally, and even though it wasn't perfect and could use some QoL improvements, I believe the pure-vanilla progression style is the way to go.

thoughts?

Any feature added from newer wow iterations will damage Vanilla for sure. Every feature they added later was EZ mode way to play. That is why we like Vanilla - No LFR, no cross server dungeons etc.

It's not the very accurate comparison, but did you hear about EQII legacy servers? They said - we lost the old build, so we will replicate Classic with the current one (modern blizz style butchered mechanics, updated graphics etc.). Well, we've all fell into that scam. That was EMBARRASSING. Nothing rly resembled the game the community dreamed since 2006-2008.

Vanilla doesn't need any "upgrades", except some tech tweaks regarding lag, stability and server capacity.

Pure Vanilla or no Vanilla

You can't make pure vanillia. Nost wasn't pure vanilla. Far too many game-breaking exploits and bugs in original vanilla that even Nost fixed. Things would have to change on an actual legacy server, for sure.

It's kind of like all these ports of old games to handhelds or other systems. They aren't and won't ever be a 1:1 carbon copy.

Great point, this is what I'm trying to bring out to the light to accelerate the best decision for everyone.

'where do we set the boundaries'

first of all, the server has nothing to do about your graphics
however, SweetFx does a good job here

all other points i'd disagree
ez mode no thanks

and for your menu/interface there are tons of addons
Luna as example is the most advanced and sexiest unit/raid frames, thanks for that Aviana!

The only changes to Vanilla should be bug / exploit fixes. Everything else is just a catering to make things easier.

You want a threat meter? Get a fucking addon.
You want a better unit/party/raid frame? Addon.

Stop relying on Blizzard to spoon-feed you...and use a god damn fork; you're old enough.
