The dream would be to have us stand behind the Nostalrius team while they lead the charge in pushing forward with our endeavors, but due to Daemon and Vipers legal safety that probably won't happen. You just need someone with a voice that can be heard, though, and also one that can get people fired up on an issue.
Well before someone can step up to lead the community we actually need to have a center of goals to rally around, right? Otherwise how do we know where to push, let's try and brain storm things we want and things we can do.
- Nostalrius getting Licensed by Blizzard
- Blizzard opening their own Legacy Servers
- Nostalrius wins rights to being Licensed
From these options we need to ask ourselves how do we put them forward and not just wait for them to happen. The 3rd one in particular can actually be explored by studying it up and asking lawyers, most people are afraid of the law, but the law can be exploited for good and bad, it is a system that is only as flawless as by those who made it.
The not so obvious avenue:
- Building a Vanilla WoW inspired game
DotA isn't a copy paste scenario here, but I sense a similar passion and situation. I can't be the only game developer that played on Nostalrius just to study Classic WoW. There has to be others, many AAA companies copied what they thought was WoW's success on the surface, but to truly copy WoW it lies in the social engineering, the pacing, the right balance of scarcity; the amount of investment needed to influence moment to moment decisions in the game, things so elegantly hidden beneath the surface.
There should be other avenues to explore, but that's all I got so far off the top of my head.
