Charlie CLEVELAND (Game Director / Founder Unknow Worlds)
-i just realized what blizzard should do here ...
They should hire the team (ostalrius team)

Max MCGUIRE (Technical Director/Founder Unknow Worlds)
-Blizzard should give them a license..

These guys had a pretty fair say on the issue, I wonder if Blizzard has the balls to be humble about it all, as it continues to drag on.

i agree giving Nostalrius a license is the best way for blizzard to test the waters about legacy servers without spending a truckload of money.

We would need more servers though, i don't know how many times this week i read "i wish i had known about Nostalrius, I would have played there."

But you do real license, that Blizzard actually licenses their Intellectual Property? There are lots of Warcraft related products from 3rd party companies, they all have licensed.

You can talk to them, get into talks about pricing. But this is not free, licensing IP means constant payments, and also would mean that a licensed server will not be free any longer because of payments for license.

I'm pretty sure a lot of us would pay to be able to play on a well-made permanent vanilla server. If Nostalrius had the license I'm sure even more people would join in.

It would be the best to license it indeed, but once they did that they would splinter their community. They need to do it in a clandestine manner to prevent a legit splintering of their retail community. Its very tricky honestly not so clear cut. Blizzard wants to protect their active player base and the players that might return. The player that might return are just waiting (in blizzards mind) a reason to come back, licensing a client out would send them their instead.

Tricky tricky.

They even admit that Blizzard is totally in their right to take Nost down, but that hiring the Nost team would be the best solution for everyone. Also, they kind of imply that Blizzard isn't about passionately making great games for their customers.
