Would you play a wotlk server? Or would you prefer just vanilla content? Blizzlike? What features?

My preference is vanilla wow because that's when I played(beta to tbc).

Personally, if it's a stable blizzlike 1x server with a decent population, and the expansion pack is not cata or newer, I'll play it.

I really want to play a server that goes through the expacs up to cata. I think vanilla through cata was a great time. yes cata saw the begining of the decline but the first two content patches were awesome. 5 mans were hard, heroics were hard, and the 25 man raids were nice. Firelands was ok but Ragnoros was the shit, and of course dragon soul was a disaster.

Wrath was the beginning of the end of WoW. The only good things about it were the Lich King hype and Ulduar.

Yep. One might as well have a server that only has those 2 raids and nothing else, complete them/farm the legendary from each, and uninstall after that.

On topic: Probably not. Making a character just to do 2 raids seems like a really bad deal. Specially since if it's 3.3+ ,like all wotlk private servers I hear of, and you'll probably find nobody to do Ulduar, given that AoE fests in the level 80 'heroics' give badges that are on par with raid loot.

Wotlk was good to play up to patch 3.1, and nothing else.
3.2+ was badge gear invalidating all of tier 7 and tier 8, the beginning of 4 versions of the same bloody raid, and so on. ToC is the dullest concept of an expansion to date, to the point I used to joke about it constantly in trade chat.
ICC was an interesting raid in the middle of the cesspool patch that brought forth LFD (which prompted me to hit the unsubscribe button the minute I saw it). A good raid in an otherwise mediocre game? Yep, seems like the exact same deal you get right now in retail. Will pass on it.

If you want to find the specific patch that truly killed this game, there it is = 3.2. (though 2.3/2.4 already hinted at it)
Long recounts were written in the old forums by 25m raiders about it, sadly all those threads are gone as the new forums were introduced.

Some people say Lich King is the best iteration of the game, but it was when Blizzard changed their design philosophy drastically (removed hybrid tax), started the Normal/Heroic raid (and raid difficulty settings in general) cancer, as well as LFD, etc, etc. Oh, and DKs in general. They were grossly overpowered throughout the expansion. They got major nerfs in every big content patch, and they were still OP at the end of the game.

Can only agree with you.
When I go and research why people love woltk, the answer is always: Good atmosphere, WC3 story resolution (shitty resolution but that's another topic), and we had one big bad villain to motivate us.

Nothing to do with the gameplay.

Some of Lich King's bosses were spectacular, but I was either barely satisfied or really mad about the state of PVE class balance. Rogues went from most-played to least-played overnight because of Lich King launch.

What this person said. Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a late wrath baby, but I didn't subscribe until after Cataclysm. I would love to play all the previous expansions before Cataclysm. If only Blizzard would cave in and open up legacy servers! That would be great. I would gladly pay for legacy servers. Too bad I didn't play this game when it first came out. I really do think Blizzard should give people like me that didn't play the game back then a chance to play the previous expansions.
