Well, they could have supported the communities efforts early on.

MaNGOS project offered them support to keep old expansions alive years ago, and also we took on huge effort to avoid making any cash off the whole project but rather invested thousands of Euros and hours of work.

There was no interest. Now it would really feel sour if a private server team would get hired, because for me the community did the greatest work, not just one server team (albeit one that showed off some good effort).
